You all better start organizing or at least support the movement or you will be working like dogs for peanuts until the Mexicans take all your jobs, then they will start a union because they stick together. The industry is too fragmented to unionize. |

Get with it OK !!! :eek1: Now educate these high school kids that just got their CDL, I'm 50 years old and have seen much more than most of them !!! Your 50 years old, without a clue as to how the trucking industry, the unions involved in the trucking industry, or trucking management work. When Fred suggested that you crossed UPS picket lines, he infered that you were one of the "Scags" that crossed the lines and drove truck for UPS, while the "Teamsters" and "Clerks" unions, were out on strike. Hell...I was non-union and had enough sense to decline delivery of a load of fuel to UPS'es Redmond WA truck terminal, during that strike. Whats the matter AVC....are you one of those "Ex" workers I refered to earlier, whom thought you were gonna change the trucking industry to fit your mold?? Seems like it. |

The point is that the union mentality is that the pay should keep coming regardless of the work. Like, "there's no freight today, so go drive around for 8 hours so you can get paid." That's an extreme example, but I can't come up with anythign better at the moment. it's like the UAW people who want to keep making cars even though the ones they already made aren't selling. |

It's actually harder at a union company because they have to be more productive since they pay more than their non-union counterparts. In other words, if they're paying $20 dollars an hour and a non-union company is paying $18 an hour, then the union company has to be 11% more efficient than the non-union company in order to compete. Otherwise they close the doors. How does UPS who's teamsters compete against FedEx who's contractors? Simple. Those UPS guys bust their asses on their routes. Some of them guys do over 130 stops per day. Imagine doing that day after day in the blazing heat and the snow? I know UPS guys in their 40's with slipped discs in their backs and blown-out knees. I was a Teamster driver for Schneider Transport for 20 years. Again, what union company have you drove for? None. So remember that next time you open your mouth and say stupid **** |
