Yeah, all big companies started out small, but after getting involved with two that ran a Mickey-Mouse operation, I would rather stay away from them until they became big themselves and a foster a safe, legal working environment in order to protect their reputations.

Point being, the smaller the company, the more crap they think they can get away with.

Amen to this ENTIRE statement. I've worked for 5 truck outfits all the way up to the 18,000+ behemoth that is Swift. Swift is by far one of the better carriers I've worked for. Are they perfect? Hell no. But no one ever is.

The last thing if you quit, they charge nearly $150 to clean your truck no matter if it was clean when you left it. This is nothing but a tool to get their orientation money back in part. No other company ripp's the driver off like Crete. I see they didn't make the crap list but they should be.

I drove for Shaffer for 4 years... what he said is true!

The smaller companies are the ones that most drivers fear to get into. The bigger ones are moer concerned about their reputation, so they treat their employees well. And I agree with madaxeman, the ones that have shut down in the last 2 years.

P.A.R Trucking Inc. Summit,IL. ( tanker outfit ) heard from a lot of former drivers that the owner skims of the top of his O/O settlements, I've met this clown and he is a little skeevy troll.

Prime pulling a strong second. Not enough lease drivers voting I guess.

Yes I am new to the forum, thus the tag rookie.. But I have 48 years of over the road company driver and o/o and company owner.. The worst I every worked for was my own.. I was the whole ground crew. But in the 2 1/2 years I had the company I only had to hire 13 people to operate 13 tractors and 31 trailers and I hired 1 relief driver. My rules were this is what we haul, this is what I have for you to drive, this is what I pay and if you can't live on that the go back out the door you came in!!! It worked very well... It is ashamed that the companies now days can not even try it that way.. They might start to have very very low turn overs and keep the drivers and their families happy.... Nuff said...

To the individual 99% of all major companies suck to work for, for the simple fact they are in it to make as much money as possible as quick as possible. It’s all about the bottom line. Being a company driver you will not get rich in today’s standard. At first it will be hard to make a living and forget it if you have a family you are going to be broke flat broke for about the first year. If you are smart and just want to work, you will get your foot in the door keep your mouth shut get your experience and apply to a company that offers more of what you want. Don’t try to change anything with the large companies it’s a rat race if you’re not running they will fill your seat by the end of the work day. hope this helps just my two cents
