Just because a company goes bankrupt doesn't mean they don't hire people. It depends a great deal on what chapter they are filing.
In fact to keep the wolves from attacking, the company will keep the look of normalcy until the last moment. |

Should have titled this thread "Seinfeld Trucking, a thread about nothing".
|
Well me b a thinkn that this thread is another spin-off of some of the soap operas on CBchannel 19,
As the Wheel Turns(As the World Turns), or maybe from Shining Light(Guiding Light) or, heck, you all get my drift..... |
What happened: A driver called Sheep looking for another low paying gig and just mentioned he thinks Werner is shutting down. Sheep got excited and ran here considering his source quite reliable.

Guys I know Sheepdancer. He is not the kind of person to say something big is in the works and not follow thru. It is called he releases it before it goes PUBLIC it could cause a pnaic for whatever company is involved but from what I am seeing in the Markets there are some MAJOR carriers in trouble more than ONE right now. We lost 2 600 truck fleets this week and more are about to drop soon and we all know it. Normally on 80 I see all Kinds of TMC's saw maybe 10 compared to 40-50 on a normal day. Face it we are in a perfect storm right now and if you are a CEO that is out of Credit and Cash you are SCREWED. Trans AM pulls in and out of a HUGE Tyson DC near me called a spotter buddy I worked with at my first OTR company they are not servicing their contract all of a sudden.
|
Its been 48hrs and I aint seen nuthin
|
Where there's smoke there's usually fire. I'm sure Sheep heard of something but the events have changed course or are just slower materializing than originally thought.

I got it all figured out. Everything that has been posted in this thread is true. We were all looking for one company, when in fact it involves several companies. Swift bought out JB, Schneider bought out TMC, CRE bought out everyone, then CRE promptly filed bankruptcy.
One driver mentioned on the CB this morning that Swift filed bankruptcy. I asked him how he knew this and he said look around, you don't see any of their trucks do you? I then noticed that I didn't see another Swift truck from Cleveland to Cincy. Ok, in reality, I quit looking (and caring) after about 10 miles, BUT I did not see one in that 10 mile stretch. That alone says a lot and surely must mean that they have parked all their trucks. In a TS around Columbus one guy said on the CB that Maverick had let go 25% of their drivers earlier this week. Then a guy chimed in that he had been with Maverick for 3 months and this was news to him. Surely 25% would encompass at least the last 3 months? Then I check my email and I get a recruiting email from Schneider with the following text. Quote: REALITY CHECK Trucking has become a tough business. A slumping economy is driving freight volumes down. Some trucking companies are going out of business and many are slasing (their typo, not mine) their fleets by up to 25%. So what about Schneider? We view these challenges as opportunities to grow. We are keeping our drivers busy by moving the freight that our competitors can no longer take. WE WILL NOT BACK DOWN. Our Sales force is in the marketplace winning new freight every day and our drivers are providing exceptional service to our existing customers, so the freight we have today is the freight we'll keep tomorrow. If you view yourself as a winner, come join a winning team. You will get miles. You will get higher pay. This all leads me to believe that Sheep is probably correct and that something big is about to happen. What it is we will have to wait and see. Most likely someone is buying someone out or someone big is filing bankruptcy. Probably a major carrier. One thing is for certain though, regardless of who or what it is, it most likely will not affect me. |
I guess he was talking about CAD being sold to new owners........

J.B. Hunt officials sale of millions in stock not ‘outrageous’
Four top officials at J.B. Hunt Transport Services sold more than $30 million in stock in February, but at least one analyst says it may not mean anything. According to a Feb. 22 filing to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Earl Wayne Garrison, board chairman for J.B. Hunt, sold a little more than 1 million shares of the company’s stock for $28 million. Paul Bergant, the firm’s chief marketing director, reportedly sold more than $2.3 million in stock in three different sales on Feb. 4, Feb. 6 and Feb. 11. Alfred Harper, chief operations officer, sold $1.85 million on Feb. 1, and Jerry Walton, the company’s chief financial officer, sold $772,750 worth of stock on Feb. 4. According to a news release issued March, 3, the company’s debt increased from $396 million in December 2006 to $913 million at the end of 2007. Don’t read too much into the transactions, said Donald Broughton, a senior research analyst with Avondale Partners. Several of J.B. Hunt’s recent stock transactions have come because of executives’ stock options maturing, Broughton said. “I don’t see a pattern in which anything looks that outrageous, as much as this looks like prudent diversification of portfolios and going ahead and exercising options that were set to expire,” Broughton said. J.B. Hunt is performing well among trucking firms muddled in the recently weak shipping economy, Broughton told Land Line. J.B. Hunt and other major carriers have been cutting fleets for some time, Broughton said. “Hunt has been doing much better than many of its peers because of its intermodal division – it’s their biggest division,” Broughton told Land Line. “Their second biggest is dedicated trucks, and they’re the largest provider of dedicated trucks in the industry. Intermodal is a less cyclical business than regular over-the-road contract work.” |

Yesterday is today minus 1. Tomorrow is today plus 1. So tomorrow will never occur. |

1. What would happen if the Federal Government was to get gid of the fuel surcharge supplement given to large Companies like Swift, JB Hunt Schneider, etc... Let me explaine to some of you younger guys what it is... I may get it wrong too but I am going to try to hit the nail on the head.... O/O, independents, local companies recieve the fuel surcharge with the mileage calculation and get paid by the shipper, but large and very large companies recieve a portion from the FEDS... and a very small portion from the shippers.
2. Since so many of these super mega companies have tried to cut the rates to an all time botton low and by the FEDS getting rid of the fuel surcharge Do you really think that they are going to be able to operate to their full effency. Well if this is true and what we have seen so far then maybe the second portion will be true too... Just be watchful for the first week of April |

Our fsc is paid on the % of the linehaul on ltl, and 48cpm (currently) on truckloads.
I'm not sure if the govt is chipping in for fuel, but I know some of the big carriers ae subsidized one way or another. I'm glad it was explained for us younger drivers, I'd hate the older drivers to get wind of this  |
Maybe Sheepdancer had a lobotomy and can only sit and stare at his computer screen (and drool a bit on the keyboard)
 |
SD was not yanking anyone's chains. I know what the announcement WAS going to be, but apparently the situation at this company changed and is still changing from what I am still hearing. Put it this way...there are a lot of things still up in the air with Swift, but at the very least they will be substancially reducing their fleet size.
|
Or simply the announcement has yet to be made.

Probably the fact that they are hundreds of millions of dollars in debt right now.
