First it was Crete, and now Schneider. Is this a harbinger of a change for the better for truck drivers ?

SNI did a change in pay because most of there long haul miles are going on the train now, so they are just trying to make up for the lack of miles with a little higher pay. Its a lot like JB Hunt. If you kinda look at SNI and the changes they are making, they seem to be following the JB Hunt model to a T with a few SNI changes here and there.

Tho I do wish that the trucking industry was changing for the better, I do not see SNI pay increase as trucking taking a turn for the better.

The pay may increase, but sometimes the miles decrease right along with it. The best indication of the future of trucking is that the Mexican truck deal may have been killed.

Where did you hear the Mexican deal is in trouble?

Even at a dollar a mile, pay is poor if one does not get the miles.

In May this year, the assistant terminal manager at the Crete Wilmer terminal told me that the lenght of haul was going to drop, and I would be spending more time and more time in the Midwest, meaning more unpaid time logged on line four, and still having problems getting home when needed.

And since my home in Texas was just outside the zone, Mid South regional was out of the question.

Add to this his comment that dispatch was not required to get a driver home, only to keep them moving, I realized it was time for a change.

Strange thing was, he, and the Wilmer terminal manager, could not understand why I found another job with in 4 days of the last comment.

Now I have a reqular schedule, paid holidays, paid delay time, home daily, and know who cooks my meals.

My only regret, that my bride and I did not turn in our trucks the same day.

Don't know how JB works,I do know how Schneider works since I drove 2 1/2 years for them up till recently.
Schneider is actually a good company to work for,95% of the time I was predispatched,downtime is minimized. If you willing to work hard 3000 miles a week is no problem,lots of drop and hooks.

The pay increase is a positive move,downside: they pay HHG miles,living on the west coast I was paid less than rest of the country.

The minute they switch to practical or PC miler and don't differenciate on geographical location for pay,my application is on their table.

Hey Aquarius, were you on a dedicated account or system?

They have a Wal-Mart account about 25 miles from me. So naturally I'm thinking about them as well. Thing is, I was told by a recruiter that the account averages between 2,000 and 2,200 miles weekly. Don't sound like too much to me though...

I didnt run Walmart when I was with SNI. I ran system, regional rail, local rail, flat bed.. But from what I hear Walmart accounts can be good and bad. Lots of sitting and waiting or lots of busting butt to get here and there running you, only to let you sit.. So I donno.. Have you checked at the pumpkinboard.com?

A recruiter from SNI came by school today and told us about the new payscale.

According to the recruiter, the new scale pays HHG miles, not practical miles
