My husband is in the middle of Tennessee tonight on his way to North Carolina. He picked up in Amarillo as planned coming off of hometime and did not have to wait on them to load it this time. He is due to deliver the load he has now Friday morning, but is going to try to deliver early as he's about 600 miles away right now. I officially have my first real complaint about TransAm. And I"m guessing for most people its not a HUGE one. From everything we were initially told he picked his home time up to 4 days a month. I understand they have to work with all drivers but so far its been impossible for him to get home any more frequently than every 3 weeks. They also have a corresponding policy that there's only one day available for every week they are out. I understand that its a fairly normal policy for the industry but it could have been presented better to us. I don't think it would have caused us to not go with them, but it will ensure that he only stays as long as he needs to. I'm hoping I've made sense tonight as I'm very tired and not sure my brain is functioning properly! |

My husband dropped in North Carolina this morning, made a small deadhead over to pick up a load about 30 miles from Raleigh. He's bringing a load of fire logs to Plainview, TX. His FM is trying to make up for not being able to get him back home in 2 weeks, and gave him the full 4 days off when he's here on the 16th-21, so it will be nice to see him longer. He also will probably pick up my 16 yr old brother to take back out with him next time at that point.
He told me I had to include in my next post that he's conquered Black Mountain twice now. He was very proud of not having trouble with it so wanted it included. He says he actually enjoys mountain driving as its more challenging and varied. Good news on the home front is that we are almost caught up on our past bills! Considering he was barely bringing in anything since last August, I've been impressed with how quickly thats been able to happen. |
My husband is dropping at the Walmart DC in Plainview, TX as I write this. Since he left here Monday morning he's done almost 3400 miles(if my brain serves me correctly and I'm remembering right). Almost all of it has been on I-40. With the exception of one really short check that was messed up due to hometime (time before last) and my husbands forgetfulness about turning TripPak's in, all of his mileage paychecks have had at least 2800 miles on them, usually closer to 3000-3200. Overall his gross pay has been averaging $600-650 with his net pay being close to $900 a week, the per diem makes up the difference. Just thought I'd give some numbers since I haven't really done that yet.

Thanks for sharing your lives and time with me, it helps me understand the industry better, you know the things i'll be faciing out there when i get out of school. i was wondering what you husbands rate per mile is after training and when does it go up.? also am i understand that he is taking home $900 checks regularly one month after ending training.. i dont understand how his gross pay goes up after per diem.. thanks Scott |
