My husband got the swap done early Sunday morning then was able to run some hours yet yesterday and got into Kansas where he picked up a load in Liberal early this morning. This load has 4 stops in it, so there will be some extra money but also extra hassle. He drops Wednesday morning if all goes well, in Pittsburg, PA. After that they will have to head him back down this way for his hometime on Friday evening.
One thing is for sure, they are keeping him moving! He'll have to run hard until Friday to get back on time but thats always good too, he likes it that way much better than sitting.

Great to hear that they are still moving him. So many companies have been slow from what I have been reading on the board.

I hope you and the kids enjoy your time with him! :D My husband has asked to get routed home for a few days off soon also! Kinda miss them don't you! But it is also a good feeling sending them off knowing that the bills will get paid.

Take Care

It sure is a wonderful feeling knowing that bills are actually getting paid! The kids are really looking forward to seeing him this time. I've missed him to, but mostly for other reasons  It will be good to see him again though. Hope you enjoy the upcoming time with yours!

My husband is in West Memphis, AR tonight. He ran short on hours and time so he swapped out the load after making the 2nd drop in Louisville, KY. He picked up a broker load in Louisville and is on his way to drop that in Waco Friday morning, then presumably to here, as he's due in by 8 pm Friday night.
Hopefully we can try for every 2 weeks again after this. This time has ended up being 3 weeks, due to TransAm saying last weekend was full. They allow 20% of their drivers to be off at a given time so sometimes the days he requests are full already. He says they only allow one outstanding hometime request so we can't plan them ahead either.
He will most likely be taking my 16 yr old brother with him for at least a month in February. My mom who usually works part time is needing to work full time for 4 weeks and my brother can't exactly be trusted well at this point. Hopefully that will go well with no problems (except a rude awakening for my brother!).

I feel sorry for him, West Memphis AR has got to be the worst truck stop in the world.....

Well, he didn't seem to mind it much. Did say the parking was rather tight.
He was able to get into TransAm's terminal in Rockwall this afternoon, so he was able to get them to fix a few little things that needed done. Somebody gave him a microwave as well, but it wires into the battery, and the shop was too busy to install it today so it will have to wait until next time he's in a terminal.
He's off to Waco early in the morning, says he can deliver anytime after 6 he thinks, then to here, so he might well be some early getting here. This will probably be my last update until after he leaves on Monday.

Its a pit, but it can be an entertaining pit too...LOL

Microwave, that is great! Save a lot of money with one of those!!!

We cant have that big of a power user here, at least I dont think so. I will have to ask when I get to Nebraska, cause I would love to have one in my truck too.

Enjoy his TAH.

This thread has been great, thanks for taking the time to share your husband's experiences.

It sounds like any problems he's having are general "trucking" problems now (weather, waiting on loads, etc.), as opposed to some of the TransAm-specific problems mentioned earlier this month. Is that a fair assessment?

I'm interested in TransAm, along with a few others, trying to decide who to go with. How's your husband (and you) feel about the choice of TransAm now that he's been out on the road for a few weeks? Any recruiter b.s. that turned out not to be true? Seems like a pretty good place to start.

Thanks again for a great resource for those of us newer-than-newbies trying to learn all we can about these companies.

The vast majority of any issues he's having are general, yes. The only real issue he's still having with the company itself is the lack of competency of their night/weekend dispatch. He's learning to avoid them when possible. I don't know if they are just totally swamped, or actually don't care as much as his regular fleet manager, but he has trouble getting answers/loads out of them. Only other thing is that he's gotten some flack from other dispatchers about running 100% legal, log it as it happened type. He hasn't heard anything from his main fleet manager that way though. As a company in whole they are basically leaving that up to drivers.

Actually, there wasn't anything the recruiter told him that didn't hold water. So far anyway its been a good starting point for sure, they definitely keep you moving. He's only sat once or twice waiting on a load, and never longer than several hours. Now..there's always the waiting on shippers/receivers, but that just goes with the whole industry from my understanding, especially reefers. Overall, my husband is pleased with choosing them to start, and would stay for quite a while probably if he could get better hometime.
