Specialized is OTR, I'm not sure if its regional or not, but you could call and ask. With specialized you are out 2 weeks at a time (home every other weekend).
If you have any questions, please feel free to let us know.

Money is starting to get tight. Might have to get something elese going to tie me over. Hate to do that and then quit that job but i know Maverick will be well worth it. Just can't go to many more months without any income. The well is drying fast.

Maverick is deff. well worth the wait. have you given any thought into trying to go specialized vs flatbed? maybe if you ran it for about 6 months or so and found out it wasnt your thing, you could switch over to their flatbed side or maybe get into their Maverick Ace driver division (from what I understand, Ace drivers run both flatbed and specialized) ~ if it could get you in the door quicker it might be worth it.

Ron also suggested stay on top of your recruiter, dont get b**chy with them but be persistent. Call your recruiter and stay in constant contact with them. Ron stayed in constant contact with his recruiter and another guy in rons class who was so persistent with his recruiter, even though he was out of their hire'n range so to speak (deff. could not go flatbed as maverick couldnt guarantee he would be home every weekend) they still gave him a shot on the specialized side. He went up to laurinburg at the same time Ron did and is currently with his driver trainer.

BOL to you!

Hello Drew,

Sorry to hear it's taking so long. I'm sure location has a lot to do with it. Maverick definitely goes by how many drivers they need/have in a given area.

Ron's wife is giving good advice. I would suggest calling once a week, or every other week...especially now that your time should be getting close. They could very well have someone drop out for whatever reason and if your ready, they will bring you in. It's just important to keep your name fresh on their mind. As Ron's wife says, don't be pushy, just keep in touch.

Good Luck! Hopefully your time will be come up soon!

Arky

If you go through their school like I did, they will get you on a truck quick. I got through school in oct 06 and was in a truck in less than a week after orientation. It was stated by someone that the school was 2500 dollars, well at the time I went, it was 1500.00 so unless its changed since last oct. it should be the same. And the committment time is 6 months. I got hired on nov 8 so my 6 months ends may 8. Oh wow thats like 3 days from now. Wow how time flies. BTW, there may be 2 schools, but dont think youll get to pick and choose which one youll to. The one in NC is for specialized and the one in AR is for everyone else in Maverick. Im starting to get the impression that specialized div isnt going to be any different from the rest of maverick soon. Im starting to see a lot of specialized hauling flats.

Thanks everyone for all the advice! Im just gonna go through with the original plan of going to their school in Arkansas, then orientation, then wait for a trainer however long it takes. Steve, it may only be 1500 dollars, don't know why I had it in my mind it was 2500 dollars. Hope your right though! If that's the deal and only a 6 month commitment, I don't see how that deal can be beat anywhere. And yes, where you live evidentally has a big impact on how fast everything happens. I now live in SC but asked before being prehired, that I was really thinking about moving back to Nashville and would that be a problem if I did. The recruiter told me, No problem, as a matter of fact if I had been living in Nashville at the time, I would have only had to wait a couple weeks before going to school, instead of 2-3 months!

I am also seeing a bunch of specialized hauling flats up and down I-85 around Greenville-Spartanburg.

Specialized, although they do mainly haul glass, do haul flatbed as well. They kinda do both jobs when needed. On the glass side, they have conversion trailers that they haul, which they learn how to break down from a glass hauler into a flatbed in order to haul the flat bed loads when needed. Ron had one just the other day.. delivered a glass load to one place and converted the trailer to pick up a lumber load from a place close to where he was at.

Maverick also has their Ace Drivers which haul both divisions ~ with Ace Drivers, I believe you have to be with maverick for so long, than if you wish they will send you out to the other securement training (for example if you are in their flatbed division, they will send you to Laurinburg for the securement training their or vise versa) after that, you pretty much haul it all. I do believe their pay scale is a bit higher as well however dont quote me on that. Ron has met a few Ace Drivers along the way.. both while he was in securement training etc up in laurinburg and out on the road itself.

What to do next

I have a question for the maverick drivers who have gone through there training program to get there CDL. I currently have an A permit and my DOT physical and drug test. I decided to persue a long thought about career choice in driving after being unhappy for 8 of the last 11 years at my last job  . Anyways, after doing tons of research maverick sounded like my best option since I could not get into the only accredited driving school anywhere near me for awhile. So I filled out the app online and waited for week for some type of reply. I got none so I called and talked to a pleasent gentleman who told me it had not been received (technology is always perfect right?) So he took my info and told me to fill out the app online again. I did and waited two days and heard nothing so I called again, and talked to a lady who said it was received and being processed. So I waited a week and half and called again. This time another lady checked for me and said that it had just gone to the hiring dept. and should hear something that day or next morning. I called at 3:00 pm next day and talked to a not pleasent guy this time who said it had been approved. So I asked what to wait for next (I have not gotten any forms or paper work or any contact from them at all) and how long it might take? His reply in close to a quote was don't know, they go down the list every monday, then said thanks for calling and hung up. So now I don't want to a pain the a$$ but don't know what to do next. Should I call and ask more questions, should I wait or should I call and try to get my self one specific person to stay in touch with that might be able to answer my questions :?: . Any help on this would be greatly helpful and sorry about such a long post.

Popeye, its time to play the waiting game now. I live in SC and was told it would be a 2-3 month wait. I was called at the end of the 3 months but was in the middle of a move and couldnt go so was put back in the mix. She said it won't be another 2-3 months but it could be a couple weeks or so before my name would come up again. The recruiters do get a list on Monday and its according to where you live as to how long the wait is.

When they do call you on a Monday, you have to be prepared to be there on Sunday. Its kind of hard to plan but thats the way it is. Ive heard the wait on the specialized side (glass hauling) is not near as long if that interests you. I wanted the flatbed side so thus the wait.

I would suggest calling back and asking who your recruiter is. You should have one assigned to you, and talk to them. Your wait may or may not be as long as mine. Hope this helps.
