I'm from Austin and Texas doesn't seem to be the best area for freight.

Speaking as a Line Hauler we have Wall Board out of Rotan and Sweetwater. Sometimes you have to be live loaded or drop your trailer to be live loaded or pick up a preloaded trailer. Usually the loads don't pay well and you bounce from anywhere within a couple hundred miles to get there. Frequently, these loads are overweight and TMC still expects you to run them. "Just avoid permanent scales." I qualcomm them each and every time and make them respond by qualcomm because my phone has no signal.

Lumber out of OK, AR, LA all cheap and has to be tarped. You are likely to wait in line on these, all are live loads.

Shingle from TAMKO or Eagle, good paying easy loads. Depending on what time you arrive you may have to wait, in my experience Eagle being the worst. Once they start to load you it goes really fast.

Aluminum from Sandow. Sometimes you wait, depending on where you deliver can be well paying. Easy loads.

If you deliver anywhere close to El Paso you bounce to Morenci, AZ for copper. Cheap loads. They usually load pretty fast. They Morenci to Mckinney, TX run sucks. They give you two days to do it, so it is a really cheap run. Because you deliver during the morning then bounce so many miles to Morenci that day is usually blown. I try to make it in one day, early enough to have enough time to get a load that first day.

Steel out of CMC in Seguin, cheap, but easy loads. Depending on timing it may not take long to load. Late hours.

If you deliver anywhere in South Texas you get bounced to the TMC yard in Laredo. From the Pharr/McAllen area it is 146 miles of bounce for which you do not get paid and you arrive in Laredo during the nightmare time for that area. I have spent over two hours to move one block. I don't know how many trucking companies have yards in that area. The Pilot opened a back exit, and the TA open accross the highway. It can still be very congested at times. All common sense flies out the window when truckers are in this zone. If is a free for all and everyone thinks about themselves. Bob Tailers and 4-wheelers are the worst.

Obviously, there are many other shippers out of Texas. These seem to be the most common for me. One the positive side there are some weeks I can swing by the house 3 or 4 times, other times not until I get back on Friday. I am grossing $1,100.00 $1,200.00 plus per week, yet I am not satisfied with this. I loose so much time bouncing, especially, when it is unpaid bounce, and waiting at the shipper or consignee just like everyone else. The biggest problem seems to be that Texas has too much cheap freight.

I try to be the first in line in the morning when possible. I help others so we can all be in or out faster. I don't waste time while driving. I try to select, if offered, the best paying load on Monday, but usually it is followed by some crappy load. I realize I am limiting myself by being Line Haul, I was making alot more money when I was on Long Haul. Until I can get a few things settled at home I have to remain on Line Haul. Don't get me wrong, pay is good, but it can be better.

I have a few other ideas to supplement my pay. I have thought of training, I have instructed quite a bit in my 18 years in the military, I was in the Martial Arts for many years and even had my own school. I think I am a very good instructor. I promised myself to wait until I had a year under my belt and now I do. Pay is only on reason to train and not even my first reason. I find myself enjoying my alone time. I do not mind being alone and enjoy it, I just don't know how I will feel about another person being so close all the time. Mostly, I don't trust anyone else driving. I didn't trust my trainer and he had alot more experience than I had as a trainee.

It just seems like I have leveled out, yet I know there is alot more potential. I just need to examine everything I am doing and what my FM is doing and try to break through.

Innuendo aside, you seem to be the one bringing all this up. Perhaps you conducted your own Peterbit research.
