G'day mates,
Put my app in yesterday for TMC. Have been driving for Arrow the last 8 months and finally had to take a break. This was my first experience as a Driver and I learned quite a lot about what's important to me as a driver. I have to say home time was the biggie for me, and that's the main reason I'm jumping ship. I would have gone with TMC originally but Arrow was just so well set up to put me through school locally. I don't regret my time with Arrow but here's hoping for a little better fit for me with TMC. |

Is it required to get the truck washed weekly ,and is there a truck wash policy stating truck washes must be performed ...If so does TMC pay the driver for the time spent in doing this ? No you are not paid for the time spent getting it washed but I enjoyed having an always-clean truck. Besides I used the time waiting to wash productively by doing in-truck house keeping, updating my records, emailing, giving the truck and my securement devices a good once over inspection or any number of things that needed my attention. When a driver works for a company that doesn't do this, drivers bitch about having to drive a dirty truck, when a comapany like TMC does do this drivers question if they are going to get paid for it. I guess drivers just like to complain! :o After a while you'll learn when and where to get it washed so it takes almost no time at all. Flatbeds wash up real fast unlike a reefer or tanker. I clean the truck on home time if I can safely bring it there , But never once thought about wasting 2 hours of my time out of my day to get a wash let alone weekly...But as for things you mentioned you can do while waiting I had time managent down a little better than that ,and did most of that stuff in a manner that never allowed them to need a couple hours of attention . |
Well, I just applied for TMC for the heck of it. I would like to see what they say/offer. I just want to make serious money, that's all I know. What other companys say they pay on average above 65k?

In the case of juices, milk, cream, and/or eggs, generally you're done within 30-45 minutes at worst. Though in the case of the many "easy" food-grade companies hauling these products the driver is not compensated. Switch to any chemical tank company though, and you will be paid for this interior cleaning delay, as well as everything else work related. Just that some companies obviously pay much better than others... :D  |

If you aren't keeping your truck clean I doubt you are taking showers and brushing your teeth and TMC may not be the right choice for you. So what if I am not getting paid to wash the truck, they are giving me $60K per year to do all that they ask, it is not all itemized, but is included under that $60K. I guess I have to chuckle just a bit when you say that TMC is "GIVING" you 60 k ...As I thought you said TMC wasn't a free ride ,and you would have to earn what you make ,But now they just give 60k to you :?:  I worry about the interior of my truck being clean not the exterior I don't sleep on the hood ... Second DOT could care less if my truck shines or not in 2.5 years I've never been stopped by DOT for a not so shiny truck ...But I have seen many trucks stopped that looked like they were show quality ....And if you're doing your job ,and are worth your salt as a driver you should not fear a DOT inspection infact a clean truck as a deterant from a DOT inspection is just ridiculous ...Now when I was driving I knew the thickness of all the break shoes on my truck/trailer , And onec in California that me saved from an ispection just by being able to tell the DOT officer the thikness of my lowest shoe ...Never once did he put on a white glove and wipe the fender  Some of the grubbiest toothless fat slobs I've seen in the trucking industry have super clean trucks  Now please tell me do you wear bloomers under your skirt while swinging your TMC palm palms :?:   |

I guess if I had the freedom to wash the truck I was driving at any one of big chain truck washes at pretty much any truck stop I would be able to easily do it weekly , And enjoy a clean truck , However When I was working at Werner many of my shut down points were at our fuel stops ,But the truck washes there were not in the program ...heck they don't have on single truck wash location in colorado...not even available at the terminal...this is why I washed it at the car was ion home time as it had a 19ft tall bay , And I did a much better job than the streak-N Beacon |
