Default Looking for companies offering a refresher

I've had my CDL since '05, but was not able to get a driving job because of a DUI that wasn't old enough. Then as time went on, I got married, went back to school full time and started a family. Now we are in a place where I can look at getting on the road, but since I hadn't had a driving job ever, I don't have the OJT and experience required. And I would need a refresher course. The only thing close I have is a year of class b trucks over 6 years ago.

Now, with the searching I have done, in my financial position, going to CRE's refresher seems to be the best option since according to the website it is free except a $50 admin fee. Now I know they can be the worst of the worst, so I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions on any other companies offering a refresher course and will hire afterwards.

After I get the refresher through CRE (if they become the only option) and 6-12 months experience, I would most likely switch to an LTL or food service carrier that keeps me local. That is unless CRE plays nice and i get on a good dedicated run that has decent home time and miles. My wife and I are willing to sacrifice my time away from home and the kids to do what needs to happen to get on the road.

If anyone knows of other free or extremely inexpensive and good refresher classes, let me know. I can't afford to go through another multi thousand dollar CDL mill ringer again. Thanks!

Ended up going to CRE. I'm on day 4 in my 10 day refresher. And I must say they do train you well in my opinion. They are very focused on doing the job safely and legally, despite what others might say.

One major issue they have but trying to fix is lodging for students. The Econo Lodge I'm in now is pretty bad even though it's supposed to be "remodeled". I was staying in a Comfort Inn that was pretty nice but had to move yesterday.

If you want to keep up with my experience, go to my FB page http://www.facebook.com/pages/Pops-T...03367603113232.

lets just say you are one of the first i heard that had a good experience with cre. hope it all goes well. the bigest problems i hear is the student is used only as a seat warmer, and a way to pad the traners pockets. A friend started with them and in 3 mos he said they only let him back to the dock twice.
