Red face Which pay for milage and why?

How is it companies pay differently for miles? Which is best PC Miler, Rand McNally, or what? I know ideal is hub miles but few companies will pay that. Is there a way to get real milage paid that it takes going from point a to b by way of roads, as we can't drive the way a crow flies?

PC miler uses truck routes, I found it to be really close when used properly. Rand, I have no idea... I think most outfits pay practical, which is how I used to pay. As long as they are not using the old movers book, like they did before the Internet and satellites, zip code to zip code... Now that was a rip off, but a guy could make a damn good living back then driving a truck.

Actually, ideal is paid by the hour. That way you are compensated for EVERY minute that you work. PC Miler Practical would be my choice if paid by computer generated mileage AND it had better be zip to zip NOT city to city.

Why do companies pay miles differently? It depends in a lot of cases of how that company got started and when they got started. The companies are going to maximize the profit they can make (what is the purpose of a business) on a load, and still retain the drivers with as little pay (the different mileage methods) as possible. It also depends on if the company employs a sliding scale (which I would avoid personally).

Which is the best? Take a trip that will cross at least 5 zip codes. Record the mileage, Then use each of those to see the number of miles it determines. It's been my experience that most of those were off by 10-20% on actual miles.
