Default experienced drivers looking for a great company?

just wanted to update you people on my newest experience since it has been a bit since i've posted anything.

After working for several large companies, I have never really been happy with any of them, I mean things seemed good in some areas, but others just left me thinking i would just use them for the experience and walk away.

Well my newest job search turned me away from my old company, arrow trucking. while not too horrible, i never saw home so that was what i hated the most, and not to mention the aditude from dispatchers.

So after a long bus ride i found myself at the door step of J & R Schugel.
First impression was not so hot. No sign on bonus, lower pay than the big boys, but the fact they are such a smaller company told me things might be better.

I arived in columbus ohio for orientation, a cab came to get me from the bus station and i went to my hotel room.
not bad at all, single room with a big king bed.
orientation started monday morning, picked us up at 8:30am and we went to the terminal on the company van.

5 people total went, and it was nothing i had expected, turns out most people in there already did their drug test from home and mailed it in with a package they received from j&r, all it was is paperwork, my drug test cause i had not, and no physical as my previous one was accepted with the long form faxed over from arrow trucking.

i thought that alone was awesome cause werner enterprises and usa truck did not do that.
then they gave us each ten dollars in cash to go eat, and back to the terminal to finish paperwork.
at the end of the day we got another $10 cash to take to the hotel with us.

day two, roadtest from a current driver that just happens to be at the terminal at the time.
you pass, and get assigned a truck thats at the terminal.

2nd day i had a 2006 international, swivel seats, tilt and teliscope stearing wheel, power windows and locks, and a load to get me home to get my stuff.

i've been with them for two weeks now and i've been home three times already and completed 6 loads. lots of miles, and i get to see the woman more often!

anyhow, i'd say so far its been a great experience.
if anyone out there is looking for a good company to go with
try them out, i'm happy
call 1-800-359-0101 and tell em David Heine in truck 11774 told ya, and send me a message over the trucks computer to let me know how you like it

Having worked for Schugel I can tell you this. The company is on a roller coaster ride. They do things very well for a time and then the greed or just plain stupidity sets in and everything goes to hell in a hurry. They won't get you home, the loads start to suck big time, lack of communication, you name it and it goes down the toilet to the point there is a mass exodus of drivers and they start loosing customers due to not being able to haul the loads they promised they would.

Each cycle seems to last 6 months to a year.

well it seems to be like that with all companies, i've talked to a lot of drivers and the only thing they say is stay away from the lease program, but thats the same with ALL companies, they got me home for thanksgiving something no company has in the past, coming from columbus oh, now i'm in atlanta to get a load going to indianapolis, i guess i'm just not used to being home so much, last companies would not get me home any earlier than three weeks, now i get till monday at the house in knoxville, tn before delivering monday night.

sorry things did not turn out for you, i will post any problems i come to, there just are not any yet, well besides the maptoit thing

i forgot to add about freight, i know for a fact they have too much for the trucks they have on the road, i dont know if thats a good thing or not, but i can say i have not had one moment where they have not had a load for me.

so for me its good.
i guess part of it is that i just happend to get a good dispatcher, i havent been yelled at once lol
kinda used to being cussed at every day, so thats a nice change, she seems very nice though, and the freight keeps moving without slack as of now.

this being the reefer division though. i hear dry and flat is doing great right now as well.

It sounds like JR has changed a little. I contacted a recruiter for them once and they didnt seem too enthused about where I live in central IL. The recruiter I was talking to was someone from right in my area and to put it bluntly, on the 2 occasions I talked to her, she came off as a real snob. Didn't put a good impression in my head from the get go. sounds like its better now than it sounded then.
