In the months of research I have done on different companies good and bad, GTI has received good comments. They tend to run WA, OR and CA along with the other western states. The only thing I didn't like was the training money after you graduate from a school, you go OTR with a trainer for four weeks at $325 a week. Also living in Sacramento as you do, you would probably get good time at home if you wanted with GTI.

I used to drive for Gordon, and would recommend them for a new driver. They are a company that will honestly tell you what to expect, and everything is stated up front (pay, avg miles, etc). The orientation is paid for by them, and is well done. Your time with a trainer will be useful, and not a team operation like some other companies (the trainer will be awake, and you'll be running as if solo). If you think about the training pay it is very good, and is only for four weeks (compare it to other companies for new hires if this is doubted).

When solo the detention rules (2 hrs), accessorial pay, starting cpm mile, weekly miles, and responsiveness to repair maintenance issues is very good. The loads are dispatched with realistic delivery times also.

Not everything is wonderful there, and certain things may bother you more than others (truck/trlr mxs issues, dm's, truck washing paid by driver, home time, etc). It's just a matter of what fits you, and what is important.

I think you'll find it a good choice when looking for a company to start with.

325 a week for 4 weeks of training is good pay? I'd beg to differ.

At CFI I was out with a finisher for 2 weeks and 7,500 miles, paid .26 a mile for a total of almost $2,000. I don't recall how much the guv'mint took out, but I made a damn sight more than 325 a week for sure.

Heck, doesn't Schneider pay something like 500 a week during training?

Don't know about GTI ...But that weak pay of $325.00 per wk in training is the exact same as Werners pay...However Werner provides either free or reduced priced crack to it' drivers that appreciate the payscale ,Excellent trip lenghth an weekly miles ,and superior treatment of their drivers . :lol:



this item issued standard to all werner million mile accident/incident un reported drivers for having toughed it long enough to acquire 1 million miles at werner...

I'm not directly familiar with the training conditions, and pay situation at CFI other than what can be found on their website. My comments are not meant as a slight to this company. For simplicity we will ignore taxes, assume weekly avg miles to be 3k, no layover pay, etc. This is merely to make a point.

GTI:
4 weeks of pay at $325=$1,300
8 weeks @ $0.30 cpm =$7,200
Pay at month 3: $8,500

3 months (4 wks) @ $0.31=$11,160
Total at 6 months:$19,660

CFI:
2 weeks of pay @ $0.26=$1,560
10 weeks of pay @ $0.26=$7,800
Pay at month 3: $9,360

3 months @ $0.28=$10,080
Total at 6 months:$19,440

This is merely an example but will continue this way for the next six months till the pay evens out at the one year mark. Things have changed in the year since I started working with most of the companies offering lower cpm pay than now (SWIFT, Schneider, etc), and most had/have much longer periods of training pay than CFI or GTI making the above scenerio even more visible.

Can anyone comment on GTI dispatch? Life is pushing me in a direction that might require me to get off the road :evil: and move out to the PNW. They have openings for Driver Managers currently so wondering just what their dispatch is like.

the best way to check if a company is any good, is simple. Look at there trailors and its if it say's "WE ARE HIRING" than don't apply.
