What kind of radio do you have in your truck?

This is partially a continuance to RadioRay's DAC Board posting about the 10 Meter Band and Export Radios. The poll is to survey how many of us have radios of this nature or even operate out of band. Don't be shy!

I have a Cobra 200 all "done" up but I'm selling it because it's a hassle to hardwire it to the battery. Next up is an RCI 2950

Looks like a nice Ranger you're looking at. The one thing it doesn't cover on 10 Meters is the FM subband above 29,700 kHz. I'm using a Yaesu FT-857D to cover the ham bands from 160 Meters through 6 M (been hearing listening mostly to 40M and 20M). The 2 Galaxy's, one on 19, the other on 38 LSB, I have are hardly even turned up, just at the threshold of hearing in case I hear the keywords "smokey," "brakecheck," or "chickencoops."

Ah yes the FT-857D great mobile radio beats the crap out of the Icom 706 MK II....

None of the above; I'm a cheapskate.

I just use two tin cans with a long string between them. Cheap, but offers very poor reception!!

Twilight Flyer 07-20-2007 09:21 PM

Shoot. Why spring for the bean cans and string? Just yell. ;)

God, I hope that "Radio Ray" doesn't get wind of this thread!! There will be no shutting him up then!! :P

tin cans are not authorized for use by amateur radio operators. you will be getting a letter from the fcc and a huge fine, you will also have your cans confiscated and subject your company to a fine, all this, just because you didnt bother to get a tin can license. moral.. GET A TIN CAN LICENSE OR STAY OFF THE TIN CAN FREQUENCY!!!!

I don't have any of the above. I have a Galaxy 949 that is pushed beyond stock. However, I stay on chan 19. Of course, the thing is normally turned down all the way so I can listen to my Opie & Anthony/Ron & Fez throughout the day without interruption.
