Cowboys

Cowboys are still the team to beat in the NFC East, barely. They squeak by Philly and lose to the Skins. It looked like Dallas was taken out of their game plan early against the Skins, as there was hardly any sighting of Barber?

With the Giants showing they are still a threat and the Skins coming on strong Dallas better watch their back. The nonsense conversation about them matching the 2007 Pats winning record or even offense should now cease.

Bottom Line: They need to work on their D before they get to the playoffs.

Dallas is in the toughest division, so where/if they enter the playoffs is still a question.

Twilight Flyer 09-29-2008 01:21 PM

Yeah, the skins came to play and the Cowboys couldn't get their running game on track.

But I'm going to say this and I won't apologize for it. At this rate, there won't be any referees available to ref the playoffs. The calls that were missed in that game, as well as the phantom 12-men on the field call, ought to take another crew out of the playoffs. I heard Hochueli screwed up another call in the Panthers game, too, although that didn't effect the outcome this time. Still, when is the NFL going to do something about the shoddy referees? It's getting beyond old and I don't think we're that far away from seeing another Triplett decking or worse.

Still, with the offense the Cowboys have, it should never have been close enough for bad calls to effect them.

And it's early in the season. The Eagle fell last night to the Bears, so they might not be as hot as I thought. I don't see the Skins being any better than 9-7 and I don't for a moment believe the Giants are for real. I think the Cowboys loss will go a long way to grounding them in reality and understanding they are in a tough division that they need to win. They're still a 12-4 or 13-3 team this year, by far. So no worries.

ronjon619 09-29-2008 02:48 PM

I think the 'boys are setting up for a huge meltdown. Owens is already starting to whine and Romo cant keep playing at that level.

Twilight Flyer 09-29-2008 03:40 PM

Owens got it plenty yesterday and he dropped a couple, too boot. But Romo misfired on a couple of shots to him, too, one that should have been a TD.

Like I said, the Cowboys didn't come ready to play like they should have. Hang that loss on the whole team.

It's too early to judge anything except that the NFC East has a lot of parity, so they will continue to knock each other off, and dilute their win/loss records.

Bottom Line: Get in the Playoffs and it's anybody's game. There is not one team out there that instills fear. We are only going into week #5 folks.

Owens is another element to the equation, and I am talking about off the field. Not wise to bitch about only being 1/3 of the offensive targeting (per what I heard). Supposedly Owens was target in 20 of the 60 total offensive plays. He wants more. All I know is, you better bring Barber back into the game plan.......

Twilight Flyer 09-29-2008 06:09 PM

Yeah, Barber had 8 rushes, Felix Jones had none. Garrett is usually a pretty good play caller, but he screwed the pooch on this game. Barber is the bread and butter of that offense and when he's running, the passing game is wide open. Romo had something 47 pass attempts...the offense was way too unbalanced and never got on track.

Mr. Ford95 09-29-2008 09:11 PM

Didn't see this week's blown call by Hochuli but he is still the best ref in the league. He at least mans up to his mistakes. The helmet to helmet is legit even when it's close. Carolina is my team and Peppers is my favorite player but anytime you go high on a QB while leading with your head or shoulder, expect a 15 yard penalty.

ironeagle_2006 09-29-2008 09:17 PM

Fox Sports via Troy Akiman counted the players on teh field HE CAME UP WITH 12 also. They had to many men on the field so get over it. They did it from 3 differant views inculding overhead and came up with 12 each time so the refs got it right. The Cowgirls fans are mad that they got beat by the Redskins AT HOME the LAST TIME AT TEXAS STADIUM BY A ROOKIE COACH. Sorry he had a better gameplan and did it better than you did.

You must have been watching a different FOX sports with a different Troy Aikman, than I did. I saw the 3 different angles...and #12 in all 3 angles was on an empty part of the field. Aikman and Buck both commented about Dallas making a mistake not challenging and both of them talked about the officials not having a good year. It was a blown call, period.

I take it you also missed the 3 plays in the 2nd half where the skins had movement on the line and it wasn't called.

You must have also missed the play where Adam Jones had his head nearly torn off on a facemask, 5 feet in front of a ref who was staring right at him.

The bottom line is that the Cowboys didn't have a good gameplan and therefore they lost it on bad calls. That's totally on them for putting themselves in that predicament. It doesn't, however, change the fact that the refs in that game were horrible and will, justifiably, get downgraded.

I'm not mad at all. It'll be a good reality check for the Cowboys early in the season. Zorn is a rookie coach, sure. But he's a good one and he outcoached Phillips and Garrett, bottom line. Kudos to him.

What, did you see me on the sidelines or something? I don't remember gameplanning for the Cowboys this week. You ought to lay of those ping pong balls. They're effecting your judgement.

Snowman7 10-13-2008 11:47 PM

Another bad week for the boys and now they lose Romo. The wheels are coming off. Their division is too tough to get behind early in the season. Arizona came to play though, that was a great game.

Twilight Flyer 10-14-2008 12:44 PM

Yep, their whole season is unraveling before their eyes.

Romo gone 4 weeks. Felix Jones gone 4 weeks. Matt Briar, the best punter in the NFL, done for the year.

All in one game.

I was going through a couple of the Cowboys sites last nite...the call it out and the call is loud for Phillips to be fired. My guess is that with what Jones has invested in Garrett and this team and knowing that this is supposed to be the Cowboys year, Phillips will be gone in 2 weeks, bye week at the latest. If the Cowboys lose to the Rams this weekend, he's definitely gone before the day is over.

Phillips is way too soft and has too much of a nice-guy approach. He might be a good guy to play for, but the Cowboys are lacking drive and discipline now and it's really starting to show. I think Garrett can give them that and I don't think Jones will wait around until the end of the year to elevate him to head coach. He'll do it soon in order to make sure the Cowboys keep their shot at the playoffs alive.

But at least the Skins lost and the Browns blew out the Giants. Breathing a sigh of relief on that, so the Cowboys are still only a half game down. But there is no doubt they should be 6-0. Both of their loses came to teams that they should have definitely beaten, if not blown out.

ronjon619 10-14-2008 01:27 PM

They had discpline with Parcells.

Twilight Flyer 10-14-2008 02:27 PM

Yeah, they did...but they were always playing tight, didn't seem to enjoy the game. They have that under Phillips, but are now sadly lacking in discipline. I'm hoping Garrett can marry both of them and get them playing to their potential, both with discipline and with passion. Something needs to happen, that's for sure. And I can't see Jones waiting around for a complete implosion. He's paying Garrett the same amount he's paying Phillips...the reason for that is precisely due to how this season is going.

ronjon619 10-14-2008 03:25 PM

Garrett is over rated. Lets see him earn that salary with B Johnson back there. The OC really needs to come thru now. 'Boys got lucky the G-men and skins tanked.

flood 10-14-2008 03:26 PM

All i'm going to say about the cowboys is the AFC south is harder and we're 5-0 who else can say that this year

ronjon619 10-14-2008 03:36 PM

Titans really have not played anybody. They get the Colts on Monday night in 2 weeks.

flood 10-14-2008 03:49 PM

5-0 is still 5-0 and no one but NO ONE in the NFL can say that this year but the titans

Snowman7 10-14-2008 04:11 PM

Guys like TO and Pacman are major distractions. Many team members just want to play football without the drama. When the going gets tough TO is a terrible team mate and it affects everyone. Regardless of what they say publicly, TO tears apart a team over time. Few people, if any, can handle that situation. Parcells did better than anyone at overcoming it. Love him or hate him Parcells is a great football coach and leader. The best manager (and toughest) I ever worked for used to say "people just want to be led". In other words be the leader, be strong, make the tough decisions, dont play favorites, and dont let the tail wag the dog. TO ruins chemstry and undermines leadership. Outstanding talent but I'll never like the guy and I hope he never gets a ring.

ronjon619 10-14-2008 04:14 PM

thats true......who do you guys have next.......the world class KC Chiefs. Go get 'em. Just because the Botls knocked you guys out last year. No hard feelings.

ronjon619 10-14-2008 04:33 PM

buffalo can say 5-0

Twilight Flyer 10-14-2008 05:33 PM

The Bills are 4-1...they got smoked last weekend, didn't they?

Snowman7 10-14-2008 07:40 PM

Now Pacman Jones is suspended. This could be a good thing. I would think the majority of the Cowboys just want to play football. Hopefully TO keeps his mouth shut and if he doesnt someone should put him in his place. He's funny when they're winning but he's a cancer when things are not going well. Jerry Jones is getting what he deserves. I don't care much for him either. When I was a kid I loved the Cowboys but that was when they had Landry and Staubach. Not anymore.

Twilight Flyer 10-14-2008 08:29 PM

How many games did Jones get suspended for?

Twilight Flyer 10-14-2008 08:36 PM

Did the Cowboys just trade for a receiver today? Anyone know who and what they gave up?

The article from Fox said a minimum of 4 weeks and maybe more, they're still investigating.

You heard right, Roy Williams, wow! They gave up 1st, 3rd, 6th round and 7th! Do they need a reciever that bad?

http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/27183440/

Twilight Flyer 10-14-2008 09:42 PM

Actually, they do need a receiver that bad and Roy Williams is a good one. With both TO and Williams running free and Witten and Crayton across the middle, they're going to be great in the passing game. I was pretty concerned in April when they didn't trade for one or pick up one early in the draft. Williams is the perfect fit, but that's a high price they paid, though. Still, they've got a relatively young, but experienced team and won't end up in a rebuilding year for quite some time.

Now if they can get through the next 4 weeks. :(

That's a lot of picks.........the Lions will find a way to mess those picks up.

Twilight Flyer 10-15-2008 12:39 PM

Actually, not as bad as I thought on the picks. Cowboys gave up #1, #3, and #6...got Williams and #7. And they signed Williams to a 5 year extension, so he's there for the duration. While the Cowboys have fallen apart the last couple weeks, that was at least, a good move.

But you're right about the Lions finding a way to screw up the picks.

Nomad_ 10-15-2008 04:20 PM

Plus the Cowboys got relief from the PACMAN pick. Cowboys get a 5th from the Titans because of a protection clause in the deal.

ronjon619 10-20-2008 03:46 AM

Damn........the boys got killed today.

sorry but the cowboys don't GET a pick they have to GIVE the titans a 5th round pick, if pacman would have stayed out of trouble the cowboys would have had to give us a 4th round pick. if he had not played at all they would have had to give us a 6th round pick.

Twilight Flyer 10-20-2008 02:19 PM

The Cowboys are screwed, unless Jones fires Phillips and he does it today. The players simply are not and will not play for him anymore. This is a team that even with the defensive injuries, should be 7-0 at this point.

With all the money that Jones has invested in this team for this team to take it all this year and 12 returning pro bowlers, there is absolutely no reason at all they aren't hanging 40+ points on their opponents every single game. However, they now officially suck. They look like they don't care, they aren't disciplined, it's an f'ing travesty.

If Jones waits until the bye week to fire Phillips, their season will be over at 4-5, because they damn sure won't win their next two games unless they get their act together. And that's going to make it hard to fill your billion dollar stadium next year when your fans are beyond pissed off.

Jackrabbit379 10-20-2008 07:46 PM

It's bad, that's for sure.
The offensive line quit blocking all of a sudden.
T.O cant catch a cold. Romo needs to get over his fumbleitus.
They better get their crap together from here on out.
I dont know what happened to the secondary.

They have the talent to go all the way. They better get it together!

As bad as that sounds it heads and tails over the Hawks problems....

Sheesh if Seneca wasn't throwning passes to the other team, they were dropping during hand off..
If is wasn't for our defense it would have been a much worse slaughter.

The defense has their chit together they deserve a better offense.

Jackrabbit379 10-27-2008 03:15 PM

How bout that Doomsday Defense!

I like the idea of Coach Phillips taking over the defense. He is a defensive coach to begin with. I just hope they keep getting better.

Twilight Flyer 10-27-2008 04:13 PM

Yeah, that was a must-win game and the D came up big. They'll have to do it again next week, because Johnson is not a big play QB, even with all the big play receivers he's got.

I think TO nailed it in the post game interview. He said "we've got to get through this next game and then we've got the bye week. And when we come off that, we'll be as explosive as we will ever need to be."

He's right. Coming off the bye week, they get everyone back. And they're going to need it. Looking at what's going on in the NFL, their division is flat out nasty. They cannot afford to let up on any game.

Jackrabbit379 10-27-2008 05:00 PM

Yeah, I think that is the smartest thing I've ever heard T.O say.http://img2.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/happy/happy0053.gif
I just hope they come up again, against NY. Eli can whoop a weak defense.

Speaking of...I was listening to the NY vs Pitt game. During one of the breaks, one of the announcers was going over scores from the early games. He said, "With luck, Dallas was able to hold off the Bucks." I was like, Luck? Yeah, ok whatever dude.http://img2.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/...olleye0011.gif

wsyrob 10-27-2008 05:11 PM

I hope the Cowboys make the playoffs again so the Panthers can kick their Butt again. I am a Carolina Panther season ticket holder and the 2 times we have had home playoff games we beat the Cowboys. I was there both times. Ahh the memories
