Stupid question...
I'm watching Wade Phillips in a Press Conference on the Dallas Cowboys' website. They were talking about practice, and players, and stuff.
Anyway, I know we blow smoke up each other's,.... tailpipe  , but I do have a serious question. What about the veterans? Guys who have been around. Do they have a sure shot at playing, or do they have to get out there, and show their stuff so they can make sure they make the team? I know the rookies, and other guys who are starting out have to bust their butts to make the team, but what about the veterans?
I know, it's dumb, but it just crossed my mind. :?

Usually the vets have already proven themselves over past seasons, whether it's with the Cowboys or other teams they've been with. But if a vet is getting sort of long in the tooth they'll feel the need to go out there and prove that they've still got what it takes. It's getting where the game of pro football is a young man's sport and if a vet has taken lick after lick season after season their minds may still be in the sport but their bodies begin to wear out. 8)

Yeah, I just meant all teams, in general, but yeah, I kinda figured. I assumed that the vets already had it enough to make it. Good point.

The salary cap has alot to do with how long a team will keep a vet/higher priced player around also,if you're a top producer you will get a much looser leash.
