I'm just starting Month 3 at Cargo Transport, a fuel hauler based out of Milwaukee. They also operate under the name Tank Transport, which is the union side of the company. I'm based in Madison, WI. I deliver fuel to gas stations from the terminals, and I also deliver ethanol from the plants to the terminals. Right now I've been working about 65 hours a week, which is M-S, but only a couple short hauls on Saturday.
So far I'm enjoying it because, like Jumbo, this is a challenge that keeps me moving in a variety of ways. The pay is pretty good too. I really appreciate the fact that I can more or less set my own hours. Even if I keep a schedule, 15 minutes in either direction can be a real difference-maker. I get paid by the load, so the more I haul, the more I make. I do pretty much everything myself, so no lumpers or anything.
The days are long, but I'm home every night. Even if it's only to kiss the wife and kid and go to bed, its nice knowing that if they need something, they only have to wait a few hours, not a few days or a week.
I don't plan on driving truck for the rest of my life, but I'm pretty sure this will be the last trucking job I have, even if its not for the same company.
