This is probably a stupid question but I'll ask anyway. Who pays for the fuel if you work for a O/O, and how is it usually arranged?? Does it very with different owners?
if it is fed ex freight national LTL (formerly Watkins), you get paid pretty good. Last ad i saw in the paper was .56/mile for teams. Plus all the benefits and insurance you get. Sure for a contractor at Ground, you get a faster truck, but you can't eat the tires. Why short yourself 15-20 cents/mile for a shiny large car? I have been doing LTL for 12 years for another company. That is the only way to truck. All drop/hook, and probably the best paying gig for a company driver.
is it really that hard to put on a fed ex shirt to get dispatched??? as far as fed ex companies i agree that we do not make as much as the other guys here at ground, but it is easy work and depending on the run you can get great hiometime.
i used to lease to FDX Ground, i know i would never drive for an o/o that doesn't offer any benefits. I'm going back to FDX at the end of the year, I'm going to lease 2 trucks (one of them will be driven by me and my brother who is my business partner). I plan to offer some benefits (vacation pay and health insurance) to my other driver.
I agree with whoever said that it's ok to drive for an o/o in Fedex Ground because that way you get your experience pulling doubles and then you can go to a better company that will offer you benefits.
