Default CARB regulations and TRU's

Can someone explain the ca. requirements for TRU's (reefer units older than 01). If my unit is registered in ca. than I have to comply with the CARB laws, but if my unit is not tagged in ca. than what?

Can't enter the state with a 01 or older TRU motor unless retrofited with a DPF filter. (an 02 unit may have a 01 motor) Hard enforcement begins next month. Simple to register online. I know quite a few who have been given warnings already. Expect other states to follow by summer of 2010. Seven states already have it in progress.

I wonder if they could enforce these rules if the reefer wasn't running?

You can enter with a dry load but if you're caught outbound with a refrigerated load it still will have to be reloaded onto a legal unit to continue.(plus the fine)

No. The only thing for older TRU's is to add a DPF filter or change to an 02 or newer motor.
