Figured I'd bump this since Booth is trying to claim that the work will never happen. The body shop that I'm getting the work done at just finished with a show truck, and they are working on my project now. They already have all the parts except for the rear fenders. The 41 Chevy headlights are really cool looking, from what I've been told, and they actually match up to the LaSalle fenders quite well. They will receive a complete rewiring to allow a set of the brightest headlights I can get for them.

The only major issue so far has been the rear fenders. The body shop doesn't want to weld a pair of fenders together, because they feel there must be a cheaper way of doing what I want. They actually got in contact with the guy who designed the fenders (he no longer works at the company that manufactures them), to see if it would be possible for him to do a one-off full fender set. Still not sure what the resolution on that one will be, but that seems to be the major delay right now, as they don't want to take the truck until they are completely ready to begin work on it.

The current time frame is about 3 weeks until the truck goes into the shop, and 9 days to do the entire job.

And for Booth's benefit - the work is already paid in full.

Hey Rev..hope to see some pics when you're done!!

So you stating, "No, it's so he can wipe the brown off his nose." is adding to a thread?

Gotcha!

I'm gonna try and get some in progress pics as well. By the time I drop the truck off, they should have the fenders ready to mount, so I'll be able to take some pics.

I was getting ready to ask you about your truck. Sounds good, some progress pics would be nice. I'm curious to see how it all turns out. I hope it turns out just right for ya.

I've got some before pics, but I'm not going to post them until I have some progress pics to put with them, lol.

Same here. I wanna see it!
I'm anxious to see what it's gonna look like. Just like they say, Rev. Class Pays! :D :P

Rev.Vassago 03-02-2008 03:27 PM

Update:

The guy who was supposed to work on my headlights and fenders broke his friggin arm :x so everything got pushed off a little bit. I stopped by the shop the other day and saw the headlights and the front fenders. They are really neat looking, and should mesh up nicely.

I solved my rear fender dilemma. These low-boy full fenders just came out, and will be painted blue:

http://www.worthless1000.com/fullfenders.png

And I am keeping my hood mounted spot mirrors, even though I had originally wanted to get rid of them. I am going with a pair of mid-50's Yankee Pacesetter mirrors, which will have convex glass put in them, be removed from their brackets, and an arm will be put in its place:

http://www.worthless1000.com/mirrors1.jpg

http://www.worthless1000.com/mirrors2.jpg

The funny thing about these old parts is that they are actually cheaper than using the ugly new stuff.

I have also decided to have the entire truck painted, since they are going to be painting a huge portion of the truck anyway. The blue will remain, but the white will be replaced with an off white, cream, or champagne color. I'm getting impatient, and I want the truck to get in soon. I'm tired of waiting.

03-02-2008 04:03 PM

Just out of sheer plain flat out curiosity, why arent you getting that frame painted as well? Seems the red would be a pretty big clash with the blue look you like unless you you are gunning for an American Flag look and that seems like to light of a blue to go flag theme. Also, i am curious...what are you driving now?

Ok, i think i just answered my own question about the red....I assume thats just a picture of the fenders you are going with on another truck.

Yeah - that's just a picture of them off the 4 State Truck website. I think I will end up getting the frame painted in the future when I have the tanks painted, and the battery boxes replaced with these (not orange, of course):

Still driving my Pete. The damage was mostly cosmetic (except for some power steering issues). When the truck goes into the shop, I'll be driving a rental.

RostyC 03-02-2008 08:34 PM

I like the look of those fenders, and I think going with a cream or off white will look good also. Something a little different and it will soften it up a little bit, instead of a bright white. Good idea.

TruckerChris 03-03-2008 05:47 AM

Very nice rev, do you have any photos of the entire truck?

I'm challenging you to produce one post that you've ever made anywhere here that contributed anything of value.

I think your truck, if it really even exists, is gonna end up looking like something that you would cruise down to the ghetto in and sell crack out of.

Better hurry up Rev,.....or next they will accuse you of trying to find the guy who owns the truck in your avatar and getting update pic's if it,..

hamboner 03-04-2008 04:48 AM

Everything sounds cool except those spot mirrors! I thought only rookies needed those??? I figured you would try and keep the body as smooth as possible since you are removing the horns? You are gonna mount a train horn set underneath the frame aren't you? Those battery boxes would be cool looking with some diamond plate accents on the step surfaces. You def need to add some 7"or 8" stacks that will tower above that rig!

The company I am leased to requires them. As such, I am trying to make them look as good as possible.

I'm not sure if I'm gonna put train horns on it or not. I may just keep the stock horns, and simply put them underneath.

I saw a PT Cruiser today that was cream colored that looked pretty good. I don't know what the blue would look like up against it though. Here is a link to it, but it doesn't look the same as in person. Looks a lot darker. You'll have to choose the color yoself when the window opens, it's beside the black square.

yoself = yourself. misspelled on purpose in honor of grammar day.

Doghouse 03-04-2008 11:54 AM

Rev,
How about a light silver metal flake in the second/third (I used to put 4 layers) layer of clear? I did that to a Saturn show car once and the guy won awards with it,...when the sun hits it it looks like the flake is floating in water. Of course you will use a good (Imron) epoxy based enamel for the frame.
I'm no fan of stacks,..but your truck would look bad with a set of 7's running up the sides.

Yeah - I had a Chrysler 300 in that Cool Vanilla color. It looks really nice.

The blue already has metal flake and pearl in the clearcoat. Looks awesome when the sun hits it. I'm contemplating making the cream color metallic as well. I didn't do it with the white when I had it painted.

I wouldn't go bigger than 7's, and I'd try to tuck them in as tight as possible. I don't like the way they look when they are spaced off the cab.

Doghouse 03-04-2008 12:16 PM

I was going to recommend the pearl also, and you're right about the stacks,...do you know if they are made oval? A 4by8 oval with a 45 tip would look real nice.

I suppose it would be easy enough to have the stacks made in any shape you want, as long as it went round at the bottom.

Rev.Vassago 04-03-2008 03:06 PM

Well, it's official. After a far too long wait, my truck is finally going to be going in. The set date is May 5th. The guy at the body shop believes it will take about 2 weeks, so I am getting a 2 week vacation (not by choice). I should have my estimate for all work next week.

I gotta say this took far too long to get to this point, but in a way I am glad it did, because I made quite a few alterations along the way. The rear fenders that I am having put on didn't even exist when I first started this project. I will be posting before pics the day it goes into the shop, and will have the opportunity to stop in during the 2 weeks and get some more pictures of the truck in progress.

I just hope the estimate comes in where I need it to be. Somehow, I don't think it will.

Here is the complete list of planned changes:

-Lasalle fenders with 41 Chevy headlights (already finished and mounted)
-Squared off bumper
-Spot mirrors fabricated from a pair of 50's replacement mirrors
-Custom hood pull
-Low bowtie visor
-Horns removed from top of cab, and relocated to underside of truck
-2 bullet lights added to top of cab
-Louver style grille
-Wing replaced
-Full rear fenders, painted
-All white painted off white/cream
-All badges shaved
-Mirror brackets painted, and mirrors replaced

Here is the complete list of changes I would like to do, but don't believe I will have the ability to do at this point:

-Painted fuel tanks and air tanks
-Steps replaced with smooth, painted steps
-Air cleaners painted
-Painted wheels
-Exhaust stacks replaced with 6" stacks, painted flat black
-Door handles shaved
-Doors changed to suicide style

I'm probably leaving something out, but it's late and I'm tired.

Hey, you could get some of those stick on flowers to add a little color and that 60's look. It would add a little Woodstock to the look.

Oh man, why didn't I think of that? I could have spent the entire $16,000 on those!!!!!

Still no pictures of this supposed truck. Little Diesel claims to have 2 trucks. Maybe he will let you play with one. Maybe even a picture.

Are you toying with the idea of renting one and running while its in the shop? I paid like $550 a week and 9cpm, but maybe it would be a good time to take a brief break and have a little vaca.

I was, but Landstar makes the process so ridiculously difficult that there is no point in doing so anymore.
