LOL, he won't go to NYC, Long Island, Phillie, Chicago, DC or Jersey. Reminds me of that old Hank Snow song.

But he will go to Tia-jawanna.

I know it might be different on a flat bed than on reefer. As Sonny always says it's the same shippers over and over in reefer. But to untrained eyes it's just a bunch of trucks all over the place but I think there has to be some order to all of this.

Are there areas that you will now not go to? I know your hands, like me too, are full just learning how to run a truck but what have you learned, if anything, on the industry? Maybe even with 1 year it's too soon to be answering questions such as this.

No, I haven't seen any patterns in freight except onions and Xmas trees I guess. I think flatbed is a little different than vans and anything that can be put on a flatbed really doesn't follow any type of pattern. I've hauled many loads of lumber throughout the winter also.

You might want to check with Freightliner. I just bought 4 new 1,000 CCA batteries for $84/each (I believe). It is their brand, so it would be easy to have them replaced should they have a problem. They were on sale. I believe they usually sell for about $125 or so each.

I had my random drug test yesterday and found it pretty interesting since I got a woman who had a sense of humor and was willing to talk.

They asked for my license to prove who I am. I told her I could and have made one in the past and it was a piece of cake. I could make a license and have someone else take the test for me. She said, yup.

I told her I could hold a zip lock bag of pee under my arm pit or in my underwear and the temp would be correct. She said, yup.

She said many people come in smelling of chlorine then pee over their hands into the specimen bottle. This causes the sample to show up as OK. She said, no problem. After you leave she makes a note on the form before it goes to the lab with anything that is out of the ordinary. She does not tell you anything. Like the guy that was in the day before that showed up as John Doe but signed his name Davey Jones. He obviously had a fake license and signed his real name instead of the person he was taking the test for. She wrote that down after he left.

These results go back to the employer and then it's up to the boss to take action. Blood test and hair tests can be done if they contaminate the sample. The boss can also escort the person to the test if the person is using another person to take the test. The boss can also go in the room and watch the person pee. It's up to the boss to verify a good test.

It was interesting.

Asked about eating a poppie muffin for breakfast and she said it would have showed up BIG TIME!!!

Has anyone gone through the new New Mexico permit process on the web? What a pain in the azz. It doesn't work and my guess is that the phone lines are being crammed with help calls. They also have banned all of Verizon IP addresses for one of the features. DUH

Got my Canadian carrier code and ordered my PAPS and PARS stickers so I should be all set for heading over the border into Molson land.

Congratulations on getting set up for Canada. You should celebrate with a great big poppy seed muffin. :P

SUPERVISOR AWARENESS TRAINING
A minimum 2 hour training (and a refresher course every couple of year to keep up-to-date about changes and revisions) that focuses on DOT Policy and Company Policy, types of testing (with special emphasis on Reasonable Suspicion testing), proper documentation and allowable levels of action and information on the prohibited substances of abuse.
Steve, I was told that every carrier now has to take this if they have employees or not. I think it was CA only.

GMAN 11-22-2007 10:07 AM

It seems to me that most carriers would have suspicious drivers tested without the need for yet another law. I wonder how much money this seminar costs?

When the driver is in the break room with red eyes, laughing non stop and eating Twinkies and Yodels, it's time to test.

GMAN 11-22-2007 10:18 AM

Oh......I don't know, Steve. That guy may just have not had much sleep, likes junk food and is happy. :P
