Well....I'm not telling you the whole story Tootie. 8) Some of those are LTL.

$2400 on ~400 miles from Hartford to Toronto but we had to pay for a landoll to load and unload (because we don't have an RGN) so deduct $300.

$2300 was two 500 mile partials that needed to go a DD from Phillie and Newark to Toronto.

And last week was $2225 on ~750 miles from Waynesboro VA to Sarnia ON (LTL again...$1500 + $725).

Just a friendly suggestion - keep your destination information to yourself. I'm sure the guberment doesn't want you telling us where you are going with their cargo.

Yeah that's a Landoll. I get on the internet and search for a heavy towing company in the area. Then they just drive over to the p/u or del. Back the vehicle onto the landoll, back landoll up to step deck, drive vehicle onto step deck.

Step deck versatility on the head haul and RGN rates on the back haul.

Sounds like the step would be the most versatile of the three.

I'm just over the border into VA at a rest area for trucks on 95. It was a tough day yesterday with TONS of traffic. The little stretch of 15 through Maryland was really a nice change.

I did my 11 hours yesterday and then some. I kept going through my head how much time I needed to drive and what time I needed to get up this morning to make the 6am deliver which I promised. I've been tossing and turning for the past few hours so I figured I would get up. I'm going to be due for a major nap today for sure!!!

When I looked at my GPS after parking it said I had a moving average of 46 miles per hour. The traffic was incredible and there was a flatbed turned over back in PA I think that hit a mini van. I'm going to rack this up as experience. You can't run New England better than 50mph average.

It's raining out!!!! I haven't seen rain since last Fall. Got the heat on along with the AC to get rid of the damp in the air. I hope it keeps up to maybe clean my truck a little while driving. It's still covered in salt from the last time out.

I'm really not a big fan of this East Coast running or congested areas. I will get hooked up with the Government but I'm not going to make them my bread and butter. They will be good to get me out of NH and maybe back into my home but running up and down the coast is NOT my cup of tea. I love being out in the middle of nowhere!!! Ya know, the places where you can stop at a small gas station and they actually put the sugar out for you to use instead of locked up behind the counter and they give you one packet at a time! Ketchup too so the bums don't steal it to make tomato soup with hot water!!! lol

I called for instructions on how to get to the base yesterday and they seemed kind of confused. In the end they just said, come down the highway into the base!!! Oh, OK....Not like Kittery Maine where I picked this load up.

I ran with the pack yesterday for quit a while doing 70 in a 55. I was doing the speed limit and I was causing all sorts of problems. I've experienced this back home on 128 in Mass. The traffic would be backed up and moving slow and come to find out it was someone doing the speed limit and people moving over and it just overflowed from one lane to another. I passed a cop on the side and could tell he was just there in case of trouble. One of those things where they look the other way for the good of everyone and just ignore the fact that everyone is speeding.

Oh well, one more coffee then off I go.

Bums?? No way!! Somebody told me that was the trucker way (not the bum way), and I have been being a true-blue, proud trucker.

Yep Steve. 50mph is what I figure on. We pick up in Newark with 53' double drops quite often. We're talking directly across the river from Manhatten Island......it's a tough job and the shippers and brokers need to realize how tough.

I'd like to call your government contact, if possible. I doubt if they have any Canadian freight but you never know.

The most versatile trailer I can think of would be a 53' combo step with a 36" deck height, 22" LP rubber, sliding rear axle and level deck beaver tail. That would have to be new from Wilson or Doonan. And it would cost ~$40,000. Slider and beaver tail add ~$5000 + $3500 IIRC.

You can do well with RGN's too, but if you have a beaver tail on the step you could probably get by in most cases. Plus with an RGN or DD you can't really get a 10' spread so your weight will be limited to 34,000 on the rear. Maybe no biggie.

Manac also makes a nice looking non detachable combo double drop.
