I think everyone calls it something different and does different stuff. There was a checklist with like 50 items on the so called Level II that I got.
I picked up my trailer box and had my trailer tires installed this morning. This is a huge facility in Bow New Hampshire called Sullivan Tire. They started out in my home town but have spread to many other states. This one particular facility does retreading and rim refinishing. Some of the rims I saw were right out of a junk yard completely covered in rust. They are sand blasted primed and painted all for a cost of $35.00. The tires need to be off before you bring in the rims or there is an extra cost for removing and installing the tires. I ended up helping put the tires on. Man, that is one tough job to do all day. |
Sometimes the solution to a problem is the simplest.
I have a bitch of a time trying to find a bug screen for the front of my truck. They never really fit right, they fade in color, they look wrinkled and they are expensive. I had the hood of my truck open and looked and realized the whole front grill comes out real easy, AND....It's perfect to have a custom made screen window with frame to put in back of the grill. I just spoke to the guys at the window shop and they are going to make me one tomorrow and are excited about a custom job. They said they can make one really heavy duty and the screen itself can easily be replaced if ever damaged. It felt so good to take that faded red bug screen off the front of my truck and get the nice look of my grill back once again!!! |
I found bug screens really cut down on airflow.
What your describing is a "rock screen" I know they come on volvos stock, but not all of them. |
Hi Steve Are you or your mechanic checking the coolant for the proper amount of additive (DCA)? There are test strips that you put into the coolant and they check the nitrates and PH and also how your coolant is set for freezing.
If the PH and Nitrate levels are wrong little deposits will form on the coolant side of your cylinder liners and when the deposits come off some of your liner comes off with them and eventually the pits will go all the way through to the inside of the liner. When you change all your coolant there is a additive (DCA) that you put in with the coolant and then after that the coolant is checked with the test strips and then that tells you when you need a new coolant element. I have been putting a new coolant element on every 30,000 mile and it has been going good for me. Mike |
If you get to drive your truck w/out the screen, check and see if it runs at a different temp. Sometimes putting one small decorative thing on your radiator can matter, so who knows about that rock screen?
|
The screen will have the same opening size as the bug screen that was on there so cooling should be exactly the same if not better. There was a big huge solid "W" on the front of my old bug screen.
Yes, I have had my coolant checked many times with those test strips and it does seem to be fine. I recently had the whole system flushed and tested. My truck seems to do pretty good when hauling heavy and it's hot out. The temp goes up, fan comes on and it cools down real quick. My bug screen has saved my radiator many times. I've hit 2 birds flying at me and they went through the screen but only there head. 9200IH....What is a coolant element that you are replacing? |
Steve... I think the element he is refering to is the coolant filter. They are available with or without additave. The filter with additave keeps your corrosion inhibitor level up. Check with test strips as he described. Just another one of those little things. 8)

I had the bug screen made today and had them use the really heavy duty frame and they used pet grade steel screen material. The frame only came in white so I painted that gloss black and painted my dull aluminum grill gloss black also. IT CAME OUT AWESOME and looks great.
I replaced my heater fan under the dash today also. It was shutting off all the time when on high. And....of course...I had to install it twice. I didn't notice which way the fan was screwed onto the housing and had to take it back out, turn it 180 and put it back in so the plug would match up. GEEZ Reminds me of the time I put together a crib for our first child. When I was done the crib front was suppose to lower down when you depressed the foot lever. Well, in my version it raised up. Sort of like a guillotine. I noticed my ABS light on the trailer is gone????? It's under the rub rail so I'm not sure how it was broken off? Another thing to fix on my list which is getting smaller and smaller. |
they went through the screen but only there head. |
