I plan to add NY, NJ, CT to my IFTA card. Do I need any other permits from these states?

You might want to look into NY HUT. Otherwise known as the New York Heavy Use Tax.

If you foresee situation where you will be oversize, your ins will need to be on file in NJ (with state of NY listed as additionally insured) before they will issue you an oversize permit.

Rank, I had the same issue with MO 6 months ago.I was able to get permits for TN ,KY and KS but MO wanted a cert. holder faxed to them.By the time I called my insurance company to fax them the info they requested, MDOT had closed for the day and it was the weekend.Which states do require this kind of cert. holder".I am sure you have experience this before.

I've only moved OD in OH, MI, ON, QC, PA, NY, FL, NC, SC, VA, GA, WV, MD, DE, and CT. Off the top of my head, NJ and OH are the only ones that require a cert as far as I can recall. QC is a real nightmare...you have to register your business with the province before they will give you an OD permit.

Georgia and Texas also require you to list them as certificate holders or at least have current insurance on file if you order OD permits. I believe Mississippi may also have the requirement. I usually just send everyone who has requested one a new certificate when I renew my insurance.

With my new insurance company I can go online and send out my own certificates without having to wait for the broker or insurance agent to send them. It has really made a big difference. When you renew your insurance everyone you have listed as certificate holder should be sent a new certificate by your insurance company or if you have one such as I now have I can go in and do it myself without having to wait for them to get around to it.

I believe you meant cab card or IRP? Once you sign up for IFTA it should be for all participating states as I recall. IRP you register and pay a fee only for those states in which you want to run.
