Why? I do have a company issued Comdata, but very rarely use it.
Most of the time, i use a different CC, with 3-5% rebate, and there is always a place, with a decent price, and no extra for CC! 8)

well the company im leased with does issue a comdata card but its only allowed a certain % to fuel up.........kinda hard to explain but it would be ALOT easier with a regular fuel card

I have credit card but dont wanna use those cause i wont get cash price and it'd be easier w/ a regular fuel card

OOIDA has one through Fleet One. Should be right on the front of the homepage.

It is called Truckers Advantage. And I believe it has a link on the homepage.

Most fuel cards charge a transaction fee. Most of the chain truck stops charge extra for using a credit or debit card. They all seem to charge about $0.06/gallon for the privilege. Let's say fuel is at $2.50/gallon. Using a credit card you would pay $2.56/gallon. If you get 5% back on the purchase you would actually pay about $2.56 x .95= $2.43/gallon. Even if you paid cash for your purchase, you would pay more than if you used the 5% rebate from the card company. If you use a fuel card most should charge about $2/per transaction. That is in addition to the cash price at the pump. Truckers Advantage doesn't charge a transaction fee for fuel purchases using their card. Even with a $0.02/gallon discount you will still be paying $2.48/gallon. In that case you would still pay less using the 5% rebate charge card for purchases. If you plan on using a charge card I suggest you make sure to put money aside to pay the bill in full at the end of the month. If you don't pay it off each month, the additional interest would eat into any savings or discounts.

I have had mixed feelings about using something other than the Comcheck card from the commpany I have leased into. As "G" points out, there is a transaction fee to pay on each purchase. However....I have been buying right at $900.00 per week in fuel. If I pay cash, I need to carry that much + whatever I want for meals. And each week I have to turn in fuel receipts.
By using the Comcheck card I was issued...I pay cash price at the pump, receive a .02 discount at settlement time each week, and do not have to send in fuel receipts. I'm not limited on how much fuel I buy..but am limited to purchasing at Pilot or Loves for the .02 discount.
Now....that .02 doesn't seem like much..but over say 45 weeks, with a $10.00 discount each week...that is $450.00. Plus.....if I use a payback card like at Pilot...I can eat at Wendy's 2x a week for "free"..or get soda and water out of the store for "free".

Orangetxguy, you need to do what you feel is best in your situation. When I have been leased to a carrier I either paid in cash or used their Comcard. I come out better with my own card. You may want to consider getting a PDCA card from TAB bank, which is Flying J. You get the cash price and can use it to buy fuel or other purchases anywhere Mastercard is accepted. Most of the major chains and independents offer some sort of points for fuel purchases. Some owner operators prefer the convenience of using their company's fuel card. The nice thing about having your own fuel card or using a credit card with a rebate is that you can use it anywhere you want. With most carrier's you are limited to certain fuel stops for the discounts.
