Default OVER WEIGHT? WHO HAS THE LOWEST?

I am a driver for the last ten years. I’ve been overweight several times. I’ve gone into VA, NC, GA and even Fl 1200 -1300 pounds over weight. Simple $75.00 in those states. I have been in those same states under 1000 lbs over weight and they let me go buy.

I was on I4 headed east/North and this one weight satiation pulls me in. I had just come from naples off of I75 and those weight stations let me drive over the scale and keep on going. I knew I was not heavy so I was not worried about it. I had ½ tank of fuel and ¼ tank of water (120 gallons possible). I have a bigbunk. For sale now. That’s another topic. Email me if you want info. I hauled cars for a living so I had four medium size cars and 2 small ones.

She sat me on the scale for 10 minutes. She then said to pull the truck up and park. She got in her patrol car drove two truck lengths to me. Long way a guess. :? I got my log book (Was current) and paperwork and went to her.

She said you’re over weight. Ok I replied. She gave the weight ticket. I was 260 lbs over weight. I laugh  This was why you pulled me in? She said we have no tolerance in FL. I told her I’ve have been 1000 lbs and under and Fl has let me buy. She said I’ve been doing this 25 years. They should not and I will not.

I did ask her if they recognize the federal law that sates if you have an auxiliary pak you were allowed up to 500 lbs over weight? She said she never heard of that rule so no they don’t.

The funny thing was. The ticket was $13.00. It cost the state of FL more money to pay her for her time and more money to file paperwork then to pay for the ticket.

Front steer axle is rated for 14000.
Drives................ rated for 34,000
Trialer triaxle is rated........ 42,000

Here is my proof.

13,180 on the steers?

38,800 on the trailer?

80,260 with only 6 cars?

What am I missing here? :?

EDITED TO ADD: I just saw that you have a 3 axle trailer. But does that allow you to go over 12K on the steers?

Ummm..... 4 medium sized cars, and 2 small ones is about 17,000 lbs in cars (at best). Are you saying your empty weight is over 63,000 lbs???? That seems high to me, even for an enclosed car hauler trailer.

You can go over 12,000 if you've got the axle and tire rating. I'm at about 12,000 empty.

Ok....

When I built this truck, I put a heavy front end axle on the steers. So this is what I’m aloud.

Steer axle…..…….14,000
Drive Axle….……34,000
Trailer triaxle.……42,000

Yes I was hauling six cars. I have an enclosed car hauler and those trailers are heavier than normal. Three individual steel ramps with hydraulics and a lifgate. That lifgate can support a12,000lb car.

The two small cars are Porsches 911's. They run over 6,600.

The four other cars were 2 SL 500 Mbz. They are over 4400 each. The last two was MBZ CLK 500 wich is small and around 3300 and the last was a Lexus which was over 3200.

I also had snow birds on board headed back north for the summer. Snow birds like to pack their cars full of stuff. Some time it’s so packed you can’t move the driver seat back. We tell them 100lbs max but you know how that goes. If there is room…they will put something there.

I do have an APU and no, FL does not support that law...it was $13.00. I just thought it was a funny story to share.

They need to tie the 400 extra pounds to Highway funding in the next Highway Bill. It totally defeats the logic of having an APU if you are getting dinged on overweights left and rights in states that don't recognize the APU Bonus.
