I remember watching a Night Line special a LONG LONG time ago... And it was a piece based a Husband, Wife. and a 15 year old daughter... The Husband/Wife was an Independent Team and they raised and Home-schooled their daughter on the road.. It turns out the daughter liked it and said she still had friends back in her hometown she would visit ever few often.... Actually the whole family seemed happy...
but in my opinion.. NO WAY IN HELL!! i wouldn't team with my old lady, let alone raising a kid... |
What everyone else said: it's a bad idea. I think it's one of the worst ideas I've ever heard in this business. It would suck even if his mother was your co-driver.
If you even halfway care about your kid's hearing, don't do it. The noise levels in a truck will permanently damage or destroy your son's ability to hear. Don't believe me? Ask your doctor. Get a vasectomy while you're at it. |

Yeah, GH, I thought of that right after I posted. In which case, "Stop breeding immediately. Get your tubes tied." There. I think I've covered all the bases and expressed my deeply-felt sentiments. |
A truck is not a place for a child, especially one so young. You need to stay at home and take care of your child. If you need to work then find something you can do locally until your child is grown. If you have a husband perhaps he can take care of your child while you work. Most carriers will not allow a driver to have young children in the truck. A child can be a distraction to the driver. What if the baby gets the colic or is cutting teeth? They tend to be fussy. That can get on your nerves, especially in a truck. When you are a parent your number one priority should be your children. Everything else is secondary.

I don't beleive you because in-cab DB on new trucks are no higher than the family car , However the cab of a truck may not be a good place to raise a child ,but neither are trailer parks ,and low income housing projects . |

Racist comment ? I see no racism in my post , And for your health ,and sake of me maintaining an assault free criminal background I'll have to pass on meeting you . |
I am in agreement with the "raising" kids in a truck, with the cab of the truck being the primary residence.
HOWEVER.....I see nothing wrong with taking a kid, even a baby, on a trip, especially short over night runs. My nephew, Jeremiah, let his 16 month old started riding with "Grampa" in 2004, doing short trips to ID, MT, and OR out of the Seattle area. Colby enjoyed those trips immencely and still enjoys taking trips with "Grampa". He is 6 years old now, and you can sit down with him in a truckstop, and he can hold a decent conversation with you about proper securement pf pipe, flat steel....or what a load going to which state should pay.....as well as how long it should legally take to do the trip. He is one very bright young man. When my Bro-in-law would want to take Colby on longer trips, my sister went along as the herdsman, to keep Colby ut of harms way, and to deal with the issues younguns have during the course of a driving day. Short trips good....daily living....BAD.....in a truck.... for kids. |
