Acronyms

Hello guys and girls,

Im Erik, 25 from Maine and start NorthEast Tech on April 19th for my cdl. I currently dislike my job (orthotic/prosthetic tech) and this is my solution. I hope to be a member on this forum for awhile. Ive been lurking for sometime now and have already learned a lot. But I have a question. Can someone give me a list of the most used acronyms? Being Im a newbie, I can figure out a few but not as much as Id like.

Also tips for newbies to live by? Ill have plenty of questions for you guys. Hope you dont mind.

Welcome, are you wondering about just regular old acronyms or trucking related ones like OTR and LTL ? 8) 8)

DDCavi 04-13-2008 01:53 PM

Any and all my man. I know OTR is Over The Road, LTL Less Then Truckload? If there is one and you have the time, post it. Ill save them all for a referance. I appreciate it. :D

Im so eager to start a new career, but Im also scared. I see alot about the fuel prices, bad companies, yada yada. Im dedicated to making this work and being the best driver I can. I just need to be able to support myself and family.

do you have any specific ones? or do you just want to be bombarded with them?

BTW, How long have you been doing what you have been doing? And how old is your family?

You used and acronym and didn't explain it!!!

Let me see if I can come up with a list

For internet acronyms in general: http://www.gaarde.org/acronyms/

I tried a quick google search for trucking ones, but couldn't easily find a site, but there are so many trucking ones

O/O Owner Operator
HM HazMat
JIT Just In Time
HV High Value
QC QualComm
CB Citizians Band Radio ;)

Then there are a bunch of company specific ones, too many to list

I'm at a loss to think of any other trucking related ones at the moment... :)

DH - dead head =rolling with nothing in the trailer
MT - Empty trailer used with dispatch to tell them to look for a load.
PT- Pre trip

man I am at a loss also...

D/H drop & hook
P&D pickup and delivery
DOT department of transportation (how'd u miss that one? )
KW Kenworth
PTI pre/post trip inspection

Not that many really, compared to the military.

Just wait until you get them messages over the QC from an airhead dispatcher who types like they don't know a single full word ;)

If things haven't changed that "airhead dispatcher" you complain about is trying to save the company some money. Qualcomm charges by the character and a flat rate for a canned message.
