when i went for my class "A" test for the state (i'm in new jersey) i had
to do my airbrake test.....in-cab inspection...pre trip..yard test....alley dock.... straight line backing..etc..........then the road test....up & down shifts....... turns etc. my question is do most co's put you thruogh the same test that the state does..???? thanks....... 8) 8) 8) also... i'm looking for tri ax...or roll off jobs...(still)... alot of them say for a road test call...#....trying to get with a union..but it seems everybody's slow....time of year i guess...??? |
I dont believe they "require you" to do all that stuff, but it certainly wouldnt hurt to ask if they want you to go ahead and check the oil, fluids, and whatnot. They'll probably make you back into a spot too. Probably nothing too complicated though.

Road Test
Check some company web sites, many describe orientation and training. Some test you in the beginning and the end of training. There can be written tests also: Some of the bigger carriers give you book assignments to complete while on the road training. You can check the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations for what they have to do by law.

for our road test, you take a truck that is already hooked up, go out on the 4 lane, drive about 10 miles, make a safe legal u-turn and come back to the yard and park it. nothing to it unless you cant drive |

best thing to do an a hill TAKE YOUR TIME, dont let the traffic behind you intimidate you, let out the clutch slowly without giving it any gas until it engages, then accelerate smoothly. |
