It is not a decent living until you get 1-2 years of experience. Living on the road will be expensive and you will be driving for peanuts starting out.By the time a lot of newbies get to the actual point of making a decent living the "I get paid to see the country" feeling wears off and by that time it is usually very difficult to switch careers or learn another trade unless you have experience or education in another line of work. The 1-2 years invested in learning the trucking industry can be put to much better use,but as I always say,to each their own. At least you have the opportunity to experience it firsthand before jumping in. dd60 is the type person you see at the truck stop always bitching about how his company wont give him loads he should quit driving Nice try, dumbass. I don't drive for anyone. No,Im a recruiter at Prime. And Im a former recruiter at J.B. Hunt. |

Be willing to live in the truck and mortgage everything. Have not shaved in the last month. Be willing to drive late at night and park illegally when out of hours due to no parking available. Must have at least 3 teeth visible. Must wait for extended periods of time waiting for available freight at no cost to us. Must be willing to spend a weekend in the northeast and explore the sights. Must not have a haircut for 3 months at a time. Must not have more than 4 moving violations in the last 6 months. Must have an overall bad attitude. Must not have graduated the 9th grade. If you meet all these requirements I will send you an application. If you have any questions call my sexy secretary Stacy at 1-900-Prime In. Dial extension 8675309 for Jenny in the J.B. _________________ I can go halfway and give you the new 100mph truck. As far as paid lot lizards, meals, and the 2.50 a mile loads go,that won't happen anytime soon. We are currently undercutting the rates as low as possible and you may have to run loads for mostly half of 2.50 a mile or a little less. But Ill tell you what, with our new per diem plan you may be able to claim lot lizards on your taxes if you have proof of how desperate you are. As for meals,we will even provide flying J buffet coupons free of charge for the first 2 weeks. :D |

Not to mention peanut starting wages. It seems she got the point across and understood. The only moron that got pissed was none other than yourself. And yes,I still stand by what I said. The time invested in learning trucking can be used to much better use. The OTR industry is pretty much a ripoff, especially for newbs. That is a fact whether you believe it or not. If most drivers OTR are truly happy, than why is it that nearly every other driver I run into, with the exception of a few that I know, have more than a third of their teeth missing, are grossly overweight, block fuel islands for no reason, don't shower for weeks, stink to above hog heaven, and BRAG about making .28cpm? There can be good money made in trucking, but the time invested to make it is not worth it with most companies.
My...My...I go away, Drive for a day..and look at all this! I'm pretty sure he/she(Karnajj) drives for Crete Carrier Corp.( you know the Big Red ONE) I'm sure he's no "moron" and he probably makes mid .45cpm or he's not a driver at all- but a recruiter- operations personal. Certainly, a 'real company man'---remains to be seen if he goes so far as to snitch on other drivers for 'making remarks off company property- that are anti company or possibly would indicate the 'mindset' of a driver who would violate company policy. His remark about YOU being one of those drivers always bitching about not getting loads, might indicate he always gets HIS by 'snitching out' his fellow drivers or by OBEYING EVERY COMPANY POLICY AND COMMAND to the letter- there by always remaining on the A-List. But I do agree with his disliking people coming on a Trucking Forum and Shitting all over other's dreams/plans. As for not making good money the first year out----would you disagree that $36,000.00 is out of reach the first year? Because I happen to know many persons without skills trying to support family on much less---I would commend anyone who gets off public assistance and comes into this profession to EARN their living. |
