The time invested in learning trucking can be used to much better use. The OTR industry is pretty much a ripoff, especially for newbs. That is a fact whether you believe it or not. If most drivers OTR are truly happy, than why is it that nearly every other driver I run into, with the exception of a few that I know, have more than a third of their teeth missing, are grossly overweight, block fuel islands for no reason, don't shower for weeks, stink to above hog heaven, and BRAG about making .28cpm? There can be good money made in trucking, but the time invested to make it is not worth it with most companies.
My...My...I go away, Drive for a day..and look at all this! I'm pretty sure he/she(Karnajj) drives for Crete Carrier Corp.( you know the Big Red ONE) I'm sure he's no "moron" and he probably makes mid .45cpm or he's not a driver at all- but a recruiter- operations personal. Certainly, a 'real company man'---remains to be seen if he goes so far as to snitch on other drivers for 'making remarks off company property- that are anti company or possibly would indicate the 'mindset' of a driver who would violate company policy. His remark about YOU being one of those drivers always bitching about not getting loads, might indicate he always gets HIS by 'snitching out' his fellow drivers or by OBEYING EVERY COMPANY POLICY AND COMMAND to the letter- there by always remaining on the A-List. But I do agree with his disliking people coming on a Trucking Forum and Shitting all over other's dreams/plans. As for not making good money the first year out----would you disagree that $36,000.00 is out of reach the first year? Because I happen to know many persons without skills trying to support family on much less---I would commend anyone who gets off public assistance and comes into this profession to EARN their living. |
but, how many of those jobs that pay more than 36k a year(starting) can you train for only 1 month school + (4-6 weeks OJT) and be out there making that money- with dry place to sleep( if said person didn't have a home- had stuff in storage, perhaps not even having a automobile)
Living on the Road- is better than Living ON THE STREET Pushing/living in a Rig, is better than pushing/living from a shopping cart. |

Living on the Road- is better than Living ON THE STREET So basicly you're saying ...OTR driving one step away from homeless . Tell me one other 'legal' job- were you don't need post secondary education, a car, a home, where you can get a license in 1 month, go O.J.T. for 6 weeks( at up to $500.00 a week) then go solo and take home- 600-750 a week your first week. After 6 months---they can usually land a local gig, maybe if they know someone in the Teamsters- they'll land a good Union job. It's just a starting point- if they live in the right place/ know the right person---they can move on. Or, get on their feet- put some money back and move on. 90% of them quit anyway within a year...leave trucking all together/ or go local. You know it's harder driving on city streets, finding customers, working by the hour, trucking cargo off a multiple stops with a supervisor pressuring you to get so much done for your shift. If I owned trucks doing local work--I wouldn't want to trust the equipment to someone fresh out of a CDL mill. |

AHHHHH GrassHopper ,But you do need money for CDL school , And a way to get to and from the school of cousr programs like WIA could pay for it if you qualify ...But there are jobs that will pay 30k your first year with 6 months training ...and when you look at the cost of living OTR ,and what you might earn at some OTR companies at .26 CPM as a rookie you're only looking to make 30k your first year and not off 40 or even 50 hours , And this can be done in other fields with abot 6 months training , And WIA will pay for these as well ... |
but, grasshopper.....
that is why they come here.....to learn NOT to go to work for C R England at .26cpm. How much they spend on the road- can be managed--depending on Will Power---they could eat tuna sandwitches and PB&J. I didn't pay for my schooling, JBHunt did( and handled all the paperwork-secretly collecting JTPA-behind the scenes) I had a car so I drove across the state to the school. but many were bused by Grayhound, and room at a Dump of a Motel was Paid during school.. Mini-fridges in the rooms & microwaves; __________________________________________________ ____________ I've looked into Off Shore Oil Rig training-----it's short training- good pay. Paramedic school is short Any other suggestions? |
