During the summer, diesel will weigh between 6.951 (API 38) and 7.076 (API 35) pounds per gallon. Last winter, the diesel weighed around 7.206 (API 32) pounds per gallon.
1 gallon of water equals 8.33 lbs. 1 gallon of gasoline equals 5.8 to 6.5 lbs. 1 gallon of ethanol equals 6.59 lbs. |
8 pounds as a general rule.. keeps the safety zone in there. If you are worrying about .2 pounds per gallon, you may want to load a tad less freight! :P

 Damutt...I've been figuring it at 7.189993/gal.
In Canada...I just round it off...but I forget to convert from Imperial... stinkin' commies. I still have Canadian postage stamps I can't use here in the US. ...and coins that are worth .06549 cents/dollar less. |
I was told right from the start to figure at 8 lbs/gallon its a little over but a safe way to figure

I can hook up my BlueBerry to the newer meters. By knowing the temperature of the fuel, my BlueBerry calculates the API (specific gravity) and gives me the weight of the product with an accuracy of 5 milligrams. :P Then I come to find out that there can be a couple ton discrepancy between the documented unladen weight and the actual weight of a vehicle! |

If water weighs 8.2 lbs/gal, and oil floats on water, it has to be somewhere between 7-8.
Thats my .02, which coincides with the general consesus here  |
That's interesting. How much does air weigh a pound? :| :? :P

Pretty close to what dispatcher's brains weigh (from what I've heard) he he. :P
