Wireless Internet at Truck stops
Gee 220 people looked at this post and i got only 9 votes .. i hope more people vote in the November election than that from here
Before I left for Iraq I saw some adverts for a wireless truck stops system they are trying to get up and running. Does any body know of the company that has the most service area in the west region and how reliable is the service if you can't park right next to the building?
Thank You
Gary

This is something that I'd like to find out also. Would it be better to just go ahead and buy the wireless internet kit for my cell phone, or do a majority of the truck stops have wireless internet that we can buy for like $5/night.

the only place that i deal with getting online is at FlyingJ truckstops... i bought the year pkg... but yes, you can buy it by the day for 4.95, monthly 19.95, 1 month 24.95, or yearly 199.95...
i dont have the wirless hookup so i have to go inside to use my laptop... buy ive seen some drivers inside the truck using their laptops... so i know that it will work...
you do have to be within a certain milage for it to work, but it does work...
ive seen where they are tryin to get *WIFI* to more truckstops and restareas, ill be glad when they do...
thats my two cents...

i am using wifi at a petro right now. i use the truckstop.net wifi internet. it works at the pilots, petros, loves, rips, and a bunch of independent truck stops. wireless adapter for 49.99 and you can sit anywhere in the parking lot and use the high speed. its as fast as cable if not faster. i looked into the verizon high speed plan but for 79.99 a month i could not justify it. i just make sure to stop at a truckstop.net stop for the night. ryan

I'm not out that much, I just use my cell phone. If I was OTR, I'd have to have it though!

I use the verizon aircard for 79.99 a month unlimited. I prefer it because I can be at a customer, in a rest area or rolling down the road and use it.
I also use truckstop.net and flying J services from time to time if I'm in a dead spot for Verizon. Verizon doesn't have a lot of dead spots, but OK is impossible.
I have a $30.00 802.11g card (that I use on my wireless net at home) that I use for both Flying J and truckstop.net. Truckstop.net is the better of the 2, because Loves, Pilot, Petro, Sapp and many independents are on the same system.
The new TX rest areas and some in IA are offering free access for 802 users. I haven't been to a Freightliner dealer, but read that they would also be offering free service for their customers.

re:
I use the sprint card. I pay $80 a month. I can use it going down the road, use it sitting at shippers and recievers. Use it anywhere I want. And I dont have to go to the truck stop to get on it. To me and this is just my opinion, I like have free will over my access, not being bound to a truckstop or a wifi hot spot to get on the net.
We drive team and we hardley ever get to stop for the night. Much less dinner. So the wireless card works best for me.
