I had a front escort who was using Co Pilot 11 in Kansas. It was useless. She missed her turn 3 times in one day following that thing, I however, was reading the highway signs and didnt miss them. I perfer the Delorme with GPS.

Maybe you needed a different escort. I am mainly looking for the PC Miler part. I doubt I will ever use the GPS part. From what I understand, Co Pilot uses the PC Miler 22 (23 now?) routing and mapping software. I can't get my PC Miler 18 to work on my laptop. Where do you get Delorme?

Uhm...I hope you do some research on the Internet and read reviews written by truck drivers that had the misfortune of using that atrocious software first.

Personally, I recommend Streets & Trips with the Truck Stops Plus template, which adds the largest trucking specific POI database to Steets & Trips. It also makes it easy for you to check for restricted routes and low clearances.

I've only seen the PC Miler GPS and the CoPilot GPS (I think it was that one...they were self-contained GPS units with screens) at TAs and Pilots. I haven't seen the laptop software there.

There are plenty of reviews on the laptop verson of CoPilot 11 on the Internet too, and all of them are bad.

I got the Delorme from Best Buy. It was like $60. I also have Streets and Trips.

I've never had a problem with PC Miler 18...except now...that problem is that it no longer works on my laptop. I don't really need a GPS (just the mapping, mileage and routing part). I thought that Co Pilot comes with the PC Miler 22 or 23 software. Maybe I have that wrong from whatever source I read it. Do they sell just the PC Miler program anywhere? CDW had PC Miler but that had to be from an entire company or something because it was like $2k.

That’s how much PC miler cost. You had a bootlegged version that you bought at a truck stop.

It’s extremely easy to learn to use since it is very intuitive. It’s also very fast. It doesn’t do truck specific routing, but none of them really do. You can set it to route down major roads and 99 percent of the time it will be legal for 18-wheelers. Nevertheless, you should always take about 2 minutes to check your routes for restricted routes and low clearances, which really is pretty simple to do.

Moreover, if your company supplies the truck routing as most companies today do, all you have to do is sync the company supplied route in Streets & Trips and you are good to go. In any event, if you have Streets & Trips set right, about 95 percent of the time the company supplied truck route and the Streets & Trips route will be identical, and if it is not, all you have to do is drag and drop the routes.
