Default Do I get demerit points for malfunctioning rear lights?

I just got ticketed today.

Stupid employer... and vampiric cops.

Anyway, the law in Ontario doesn't say anything about demerits and malfunctioning lights.

Demerit Point System

Or did I miss something?

I'm wondering if I should just pay the ticket $110 or get a traffic lawyer.

YOU were supposed to make sure the lights worked. Who got the ticket? You or your employer? If you told your employer the lights didnt work and he didnt fix them let him pay the ticket. As far as blaming the "vampiric cops" or "stupid employer" the whole thing starts with you.

It is the responsibility of the driver to make sure everything on the truck is operating properly. Most companies will repair anything that is broken if you tell them about it. If you didn't check your lights then it is on you to pay the ticket. Whether you should fight it or not is your decision. Lighting failure should not be a moving violation. Apparently, you were guilty. A lawyer is likely to cost much more than the ticket. You may get the ticket changed to another offense, but I doubt that you will get out of paying the fine.

Pay the fine and chalk it up to a $100 lesson on checking lights. All the lights NEED to work at ALL timesand you as the driver is responsible for that, thats why they sell lights at truckstops!

Before I left, the lights were fine. I always do a circle check before moving the truck.

They went out DURING the trip. And I had the bad luck of getting pulled over by a vampire. errr... cop.

My question though.

Will my driving record be affected by such a ticket? Will such a thing appear in my driver's abstract? Will potential future employers be concerned about that, or do potential employers only care about traffic violations with demerit points?

No ur record wont show this kind of ticket. This is a scab ticket just to make some revenue for the town. Cop was prolly laughing about it when he sat back in his cruiser. Lights can go bad whenever they feel like it. Tell ur company u visually checked them and they were fine. They should pay the fine.. If not pay it urself brush it off and keep some spares in the truck. Cop shoulda gave u a break tho, but in these times its all bout money

Right, the fact that the cop possibly saved someone from running into the back of the truck has nothing to do with it. These BBR's never cease to amaze me what they can come up with to blame the cops for doing their job.:stupid:

Hey ive had lights go out before and the cop said get it taken care of and went on his way... No problem..i took care of it asap. He didnt need to write the ticket. Now if everysingle light was out of commision including brake lights then the cop should have fined him and put the truck out of serive until a service truck came and repaired it. He just wanted to write off an easy fine for a bad tail light. Scab ticket. Lets be real ,that most companies care about getting that load delivered on time, and a few lights out is not a good enough excuse to miss the deadline. I cant count how many times ive had problems with the truck or trailer and called it in but had to get the load deleivered and then worry about the truck... Thats the way it goes sometimes
