Default My first weeks with Schneider

I just finished my first 3 weeks with Schneider, I have been nothing but impressed. The first 2 weeks were at the academy in Fontana, then 7 days with a trainer. First impressions, Schneider training was incredible, I have nothing but praise about my first two weeks at the academy. I went from never being in a truck to feeling that I could actually drive the thing. SAFETY is stressed more than anything.
We`started with 13 students and finished with 3,the training is not easy, but it is doable if you apply yourself. 5 of the failed students were experienced drivers, Schneider will help you through if you are compentent, but if you cannot drive, you will be sent home.
After training I went out with a TE (Training Engineer), I applied what I learned in school and studied hard. With your TE you will do all of the driving, all of the trip planning, and all of the qualcomm. When you have mastered all of the above you will be sent back to school to test again to make sure you have learned what you need to know to be turned loose on your own. Then after you have passed that (SQT) you will take your CDL test.
Once all of the above is done you will be assigned your truck and you will be on your own.
I would recommend Schneider Training for anyone who is thinking about getting into trucking. Iknow I enjoyed it.

I'm really glad that things are working out for you. It's certainly hard to come across a positive story on here about training. I was pretty close to going Schnieder myself, however, for some reason they don't have anything in Denver that is appealing. Never further from home than 600 miles, yet you are only home one night a week. To me that said dock time galore. Anyhow, enjoy your time there, bol.

Glad to hear you're having a good time there. It's nice to hear something positive for a change. But of course I'm a driver so I have to find something to gripe about... Reading your story it seems to me they throw you out on your own pretty quickly. You have no experience and then having to go on your own? Wow....I mean I'm only driving for 2 and a half years and I'm still considered a rookie.. Still learning too. BOL to ya! Just keep that safety thing in mind at all times and don't make em force you to run illegal; it ain't worth it!

3 out of 13, wow. I'm curious, we the 10 that did not make it really bad students or did they simply "not get it"?

I have been strongly considering Schneider, those odds make me nervous.

Don't be nervous. A lot of people think it's like driving a car and when they get there, they realize it's not. Then a bunch of them think they already know it better than the trainer and with that attitude you're not going to get far. Listening to what you're taught and safety are most important. If you want to be a smart a$$ is probably when they say bye-bye.

People seem to not understand Schneider they have a very hard school. As far as I'm concerned they are one, if not the best, schools going. They have a high rejection rate in addition to they have a high failure rate both in school and the first year drivers. If one of their drivers make it through a year they can pretty well go to any company.

I know when my brother drove for them and scrapped a pole, no damage to either the truck or the pole, they brought him in for a refresher class.

The only problem I see with them is their low pay and their no idle rules. They have several odd ideas such as no floating of gears.

For the short time I was there I enjoyed Schneider. It was lots of drop and hooks, lots of support anytime I needed help, and they really stressed safety. I started off right away making 900-1100 per week. The no idling policy is really annoying, but I wasn't worried about getting that little bonus as much as I was worried about being comfortable so I didn't pay a whole lot of attention to it.

You were lucky. My brother's truck would shut down after, I think it was, 15 minutes. He didn't have a choice.
