I can tell you that Maverick has an "unwritten" 1 year policy that applies in a lot of areas. They usually won't tell you this, but I've heard and seen it too many times. A friend of mine was turned down by Maverick in school because he had been terminated by the USPS a few years ago. Technically, he was layed off, but the USPS classified it as "terminated" because he was let go. They advised him to go with another company for a year or so and then reapply. He went with PTL worked for them for about 16 months and reapplied with Maverick. They accepted him with open arms and I just talked to him yesterday. He went through orientation and securement training and is in his second week out in his truck. Last week, he worked 4 days and told me that he made more in those 4 days than he ever made in any week with PTL and he usually came home once per month with them.
Another friend was let go by Maverick because someone accused him of hitting their truck in a truckstop. He had proof that he wasn't even in that truckstop on that day, had a log book and Qualcomm to prove it, but he decided not to fight it and moved on to Gypsum Express. A couple of weeks ago he hit the 1 year mark and called Maverick to find out that he is now eligible for rehire. My trainer at Maverick was let go after 2 years because of too many speeding tickets. He went to Howard Transportation and worked for a little over a year, learned his lesson on the tickets and kept his nose clean. Then he went back to Maverick and has been back there since 1999.
1 year seems to be the magic number with Maverick and I'm sure that applies to most companies. Even if someone turns you down, get started someplace else, stay out of trouble and there's a good possibility you can get accepted by your original "preferred" employer after a year or so.
