Here in the states they run a wide range of jobs from solo to team jobs. Some companies run only day cabs and will put you in a motel if your run takes longer than you can do within the HOS, other have sleepers and require you to use them.

Most runs for solo drivers are out and backs, meaning you return to the same mail center each trip out.

The pay here in the states is around $19/hr and unless you get lucky, many times you end up starting part time running loads on an as needed basis, but usually there is enough work for you to get at least 18-20 hours in per week min on a part time basis. Also while you are paid "hourly" each run is paid a set amount, so if you can do a 5 hour run in 4 hours you still get paid for that 5th hour, but if it takes you 6 then you usually do not get paid any extra for it. The run times are set by contract from the USPS and are generous enough that drivers rarely have problems completing them within that time frame.

The runs are generally No touch. Occasionally you might be asked to help off load your trailer which entails moving plactic containers, that are on wheels, from the trailer to the dock.

There are lots of companies here in the USA that does mail runs, Mail Carriers of America is one of the largest.

Thanks, Uturn & Sealord.

For those of you who are interested, I did a search on Google, and came up with a whole list of US Mail contratctors. Here's the link....

Yup. The pay around here is $19.**/hr. Hear nothing but good things about them. Would apply myself but it would only be a lateral move for me and I am happy working for Elves that live in a hollow tree .

I worked for Eagle Express over 14yrs ago, right when they switched from Pals Express to Eagle. At that time, they played a lot of games with the postal runs and rates. They worked out of 4 different BMCs(Bulk Mail Centers) in the Chicago area, and would give the yearly raise to only 2 of the 4 BMCs. They would tell the other BMC drivers that they did not qualify for raises that year, and pocket the money. They also did some sort of scam with the insurance money that was included in the postal contracts back then. The few conversations that I have had with current drivers recently pretty much confirmed that they still play these kind of games. Maybe they act different in PA, but just wanted you to go into it with your eyes open.
