Default hazmat book

hi, we haul a lot of hazmat. we have been trying to find a hazmat book (large print) that will have every thing listed as to hazmat loads. I been to truck stops, and amazon.com. We have had some issues with some loads in the past where the shipper has said that class 9 over 1001 lbs DO NOT NEED TO BE PLACARDED we say they do! who is right? thanks

Class 9 loads in the total amount of 1,001 lbs or more, including the packaging, must be placarded.
You may use DANGEROUS placards in some cases but better to placard each if you can. Safety first.

Here's another source that comes in a large style book:

http://www.mancomm.com/dot/samples.asp

On page 39, of my Hazardous Materials Compliance Book, it states:

9. For Class 9, a CLASS 9 placard is not required for domestic transportation, including that portion of international transportation, defined in 171.8 of this subchapter, which occurs within the United States. However, a bulk package must be marked with the appropriate identification number on a CLASS 9 placard, an Orange Panel, or a white square-on-point display configuration as required by subpart D of this part.

To me, this is "government double speak" for....if its 1001 lbs or more, the freaking placards go on the trailer.....unless of course the shipper can provide conclusive proof with a current copy of Federal Regulations that the product is exempt from placarding.... Or my Safety Department says its OK... Bottom line....if the product poses a hazard, it gets a placard. If they have an X in the HM column or an RQ....its not arguable on their part.
If its "non-hazardous" there will be no X or RQ.

Actually, I believe bulk refers to the material being shipped in a "tote",(if transported in a van) or in a tanker. In both cases the UN # must be displayed on the class 9 placard.

The Dangerous placard is used when you are transporting 2 or more items from table 2 that have a combined weight of 1001lbs or more, however if any one of those items totals 2205lbs or more, the Dangerous placard is not used, and the placard for that specific item is used.

Hope this helps.
