Yet another one...but...just curious about yall's opinions..
Ok...after visiting with some trucking companies that have lots of options in my area...here's who I'm looking at:
Averitt ( Lots of Lanes in my area)
Werner (They have a dedicated Target account and the target distribution center is right close to my house)
H.O. Wolding - They actually now have orientation here in my neck of the woods.
Like any other company out there, all have good and bad points. These just seem to have options to fit mine and my families needs. Then again...the recruiters could be full of BS as usual. Averitt seemed to shoot straight from the hip.
Any good or bad experiences with these? I don't know much about Wolden...

Werner says that only about 35% of new drivers are still driving after 6 months.
I'm an Averitt fan, but I can't remember why! :lol:
I work http://www.action-transport.com/ in NE Mississippi and you may be able to get on with us if you have a spotless record. I got on as a newbie about 2 years ago.

The Target dedicated run that Werner has is a ok run from what I have heard. Some of the trainees that I had on my truck when I was training there went on to that account and a few are still there. From what they have told me is they have very tight appointment times and are constantly up against the logs. I do not recall the miles they said they was getting. I do not believe the pay was very good though.

I'd say Averitt.
I've talked to several of their drivers and they are happy with the company.
They seem to be a professional outfit.

i have also talked to a couple of their driver's seemed very content and happy with them said they wasn't going any where,just my 2 cent's

Averitt seems to be a pretty good company. I've never driven for them, but I've talked to some of their drivers....and they seemed happy enough.
The big thing with them seems to be that they have very high requirements regarding personal hygiene and expect drivers to shower, shave, smell good and wear their uniforms every day, unless that has changed, it seemed to be a non-negotiable item.

the only complaint I have heard from Averitt drivers is that they arent allowed to take the trucks home

Based on the little bit of conversation we had yesterday and the choices to be had at the job fair...I would have to say Averitt would probably be a better fit for what you're looking for.
Although...if you ever want to give flatbeddin' a shot...you've got Sue's card. (Oh yeah...and I think I conned her into sending you a PGT hat along with the info packet, lol!)

Im not trying to push Werner, but running dedicated with them is better that 48 state.
I dont know much about the Target account, however, I want to let you know (since your from Alabama). In MCcalla (just south of Birmingham) is Office Max dedicated. Typically higher pay than OTR and weekends off (they do take weekend volunteers if you like).
The FM (dispatch) and Loadplanners are located in the DC, FM can accomplish your annual safety review, quarterly safety meetings (accomplished on a Computer) can be completed at the DC, all tractor service is accomplished while on the road at your truckstop of choice. (The objective being to keep you out of the Terminals).
I drive Office Max out of Hazleton Pa, been with Werner/Office Max for 5yrs. It works really well for me.
I did drive out of Mccalla for a week when they needed extra drives after Katrina hit. They seem to run pretty good, I know they ran me good for the week.
If you do choose Werner and want a dedicated account, do not go through "driver assignments" to get the account. Get the Account Managers phone number and contact that person directly. They have the authority to "hire" drivers themselves, over driver assignments.
