Can anyone describe what the Swift Workwell Physical Assessment consists of? I've been told you just have to lift 75lbs, but the title would seem to indicate it might be a little more involved than that. Thanks in advance for your comments. Mark

The workwell physical I took, at a different company, consisted of:

Testing your grip strength in each hand
Stepping up and down off a stool for several minutes.
Leaning over a bar at a 90 degree angle for several minutes,
Lifting increasing amounts of weight and placing it on a shelf.
Dragging a box across the floor from a kneeling position.

when i was at swift this was just back in aug. of 06 i had to left 30 pounds from floor to waist then floor to chest three times then it went to 50 pounds from floor to waist then from floor to chest three times, i had to carry the 30 pounds then 50 pounds ten feet back and fourth three times each, then i had to step up on a ladder (like u was stepin up in a DOT dumper), then i had to test my strength in both arms, puching and pullin, they put a pulse watch on you. If your doin flat bed they make u do 70 or 80 pounds on the lift and carrying .

I'm sort of hijacking this thread to ask one additional question.

I can see why a company would want a healthy capable driver, but why on earth would they need to submit employees to such an exercise? Isn't the DOT Physical good enough? :?:

I mean I don't think it's THAT big of a deal to take this "Workwell Physical" and I will of course submit to one if asked and required. But it just seems kind of redundant.

Just more pre-employment crap from an industry ran by the insurance companies. I applied at some small Dry Ice hauling company a few years ago and they made me go to some med center, strap in like some NASA test monkey and do all this cardio BS which probably costs them $200+. Guess their paranoid about workmen's-comp claims.

Well I can almost appreciate that. But what happens when you don't meet "minimum" requirement for something like... oh say... a hand grip test, given that you pass the rest of the stuff?

I'm actually sorta worried about this now because I have very weak hand grip, I'm capable of moving around 50-75 lbs at a time, I can keep a firm hold on a steering wheel, heck even my motorcycle handlebars, but will something like poor hand grip keep me from working for a company?
