hi first time poster with a question,i graduate from school on monday(1-15-2006) and i dont feel that i have enough hours or am getting enough hours to take my road test and pass it, what im getting at would it be to my advantage to go with a company who offers to train you if you sign on with them for a certain amount of time.
right now i am a safe driver can handle the truck but i know i need more road time .

I attended Road Master, and yes, it was a three week dioloma mill; however, if a student did not pass the exam, he/she could return, and receive more training. A few students in my class didn't pass their first exam, but all but two of them did pass the second time around.

In both those cases, I think that the problems were more with the students than with the school or the instructors!!

I think you're going to have to pass the test where you are now. These companies might look at you and say "Well he was trained but couldn't pass the test, why should we think he'll be able to pass our test when we're done with our training?".

And have confidence. You might do better than you think on test day. Why do you think you won't pass? Do you see a specific area of weakness?

i do have a few areas of weakness that i know a couple nice long rides would clear up,our average road ride is an hour every now and then you get a 2 hour road ride.i feel if i had the longer rides i would feel a heck of a lot more comfortable when i go for the state road test.
confidence im full i know i can do this.

When I got my CDL, it was through Swift Transportation's company school. We had three people there who had already passed a DOT road test and got their CDLs, but chose to come through company schooling because, like you, they didn't think they had enough training.

I will say, most of these company schools are nothing but what you seem to be going through now - a CDL mill. Most of the training that will take you from a rookie with a freshly minted piece of plastic will come from the company training program you hire into. If you select your first company wisely and get a decent trainer, you should be alright.

Most of the larger companies offer what is called a "finishing" course, which sounds like it would be right up your alley. I would, however, recommend that you avoid Swift's finishing course, as they have a tendancy of putting people who shouldn't be there in the "trainer" position.

that is part of the reason I went with millis. they put you thru 3 weeks of their school then send you out with your trainer. after a couple weeks with the trainer you schedual your road test with your trainers truck and in your home state. it works out well cause the trainer cant just sleep and use your log book cause you dont have a CDL and you get some real world training before your test.
