09-20-2008Started there back at the tail end of '96. Lasted just about 90 days. The only thing I can say good is that I had a terrific trainer. Very casual, but informative, patient, and encouraging...class guy.
Everything else negative I've read on CAD I can certainly relate to.

Bullshit. I work for CRE. They were more than willing to give me Thanksgiving off. Furthermore they are family owned Mormons, so Christmas is EASY to get off.
By the way, who was open on Christmas to take yer buddy's load?

OK, where did I write that the load was to be delivered ON Xmas day? Did it ever occur to you that even if it delivered a couple of days before, there was NO WAY this dude was gonna (legally) make it home by Xmas day to Vegas? Or are you using that phunky CR England fleece-scam trucker math? By the way, who was open on Christmas to take yer buddy's load?

When you show up for orientation they will try to hard sell the Fleece-Purchase. Steel your resolve against their sales mind F&%*.
At this point you might as well stay and get your 4-6 months of rookie time out of the way.
As a company driver they are no worse than most of the other McMegaCarriers. At least for teams they have plenty of long hauls. One of the guys who trained in the last in house class at my terminal in Reno quit to go work for them. Our CDL school is longer and more intensive so he was able to skip training with them. Last I heard he was happy and getting plenty of miles as a team driver. He is a single guy with no overhead who still lived with his parents.
Do they pay off your training costs on a monthly basis or is a stay for 1yr all or nothing deal? FYI many carriers offer a signing bonus paid out over time or school load reimbursement.
Where do you live any way?
