Stomper Electronics at the TA off exit 63 on I85 in South Carolina is the ONLY shop that'll ever touch a radio of mine again. Check him out if you're ever in the area.
If you're not real big on using the CB, and don't care to play in DX Land, that Cobra, coupled with a Francis or Firestick antenna, should do you quite nicely.

Ive read up on the cobra cb site that if you dont have a good ground close to the antenna(like a plastic mirror), to use a non-grounded antenna(not sure if thats the technical name). Said you can get them at an rv or boat shop. Also it said to use AT LEAST 18 feet of coax cable.

Myself, I might have to get one because the truck Ill be driving is a T600 with the plastic mirrors.

Any suggestions folks?

On those things I-20 runs you dont. Specially with the built in ones. And you cant even hookup a normal antenna to the mirrors.

The T-600 antenna mounting location is on the mirror arm, and grounding should not be a big issue. If it is an issue you should be able to run a metal strap from the antenna bracket to a bolt on the door frame.

Grounding becomes an issue on truck like Volvos and Centurys where the stock mounting location in on the mirror itself.

great. I haven't done any research on them yet, this is why i know nothing about the mounting of them, other than looking at them.

I have two "Browning" antennas, on my T600, with factory installed coax, and Ranger 6300-25fx radio. W/O any addition could hear on a clear night about 10-12 miles.

you can skin a little spot on the coax and solder a wire to the braided wire then tape it up , then it then hook it to the ground post right there in the cab

Another thing... for those of you with metal mirrors:
1: make sure your mirror mounts are tightly bolted, or you'll lose your ground. This will eventually burn your radio out.
2: if you have paint on your mirrors, scrape it off where you're mounting your antenna, or else you won't get a ground to begin with.
3: Get your SWR tuned on your antenna, or you'll end up burning out your CB. If you do not wish to do this, or don't know how, then you're best off to buy a Francis antenna, which are individually tuned to run with an 18 ft coax.

Well having used "Big Radios" and small I have found the uniden PC 76 to be an outstanding choice for the average user. the new cobras are just trouble in a box..With soundtracker that is I had a galaxy 99 for years and it was a great radio and a Ranger 2970 but the truth is if you dont use the sidebands or ham bands why pay for em?
Also I second the opinion that with a good antennae and co-ax you can make an inexpensive radio sound great.. Spend your money on a wilson 2000 and you will never be sorry. also a single ant will always work better than duals.
the trick is stay away from the rip off cb shops..Johnsons corners in colorado is an honest fair shop. they can actually repair radios.
