For anyone who DOES miss the ramp going past that POE.... there's a wide spot alongside the highway right out in front of the scales. PER THE TROOPER ON DUTY: PARK your truck there, get out of your truck with shipping bills, your truck book, and your logbook, take them in to the counter and tell them you're going to turn around and come back. You will NOT be ticketed nor fined for doing so. (So he SAID, at least.) |
I think that most scales will not ticket you as long as you pull over and don't go past the scale before going in and talking with them.

I missed that one back in '91. It was snowing to beat the band, the middle of the night, snow covered road, and no excuses,(well, I was driving an orange truck pulling an orange trailer:eek2:), I just missed it. I saw the "open" sign, I just missed the exit ramp. By the time I had realized I had missed it the DOT "dude" was on the CB telling me to take the next exit and come back.:pissedoff: I did and when I got in the scale house he said he wouldn't ticket me since he didn't have to come after me.
What a pal. I never could figure out why they were open in all of that anyway. |

I don't think that scale ever closes. I went over it while about 200 first responders were working a triple fatal across the street. Traffic was backed up for miles in both directions. I was sent around for a level 3 and I thanked the guy for taking me in. I forgot the trailer registration, turned to go get it and the guy says "Take your time." |
