Yes, but rarely. Once I got out of training, I fell between $40k and $60k in that year. Admittedly, most of that was at 30 and 36 cents per mile, with unload pay and stop pay. However, this is a dramatic exception to the rule.

Sadly, I've not heard ANY reports from my fellow students at Alliance since graduation, and haven't seen a single soul with whom I went to Werner orientation with since then. Oh well...

On a 6/2 Schedule i'm in the running to bring home 39,000 my first year.. That includes Stop pay and so on.. I don't see how a True OTR first year Driver Makes It.. I seriously don't

If you've got a family and mortgage to take care, then that salary is laughable.
If you're like me and aren't tied down to any of those responsibilities, then anything above $20,000/year is healthy.
It all depends on how you spend your money.

i made that last year at swift.....as a solo driver. yeah, it's possible. fortunately for myself, you, and like bentstrider, we don't really have any attachments. unfortunately though, i had very little to show for it. i paid off the $15,000 medical bill that i had incurred some years back after a biking accident.:(

I'm going to put in for SS, and between that and "roving patrol" for vacant properties, I'll make out better than I do now. There are a whole lot of vacant businesses that the owners do not want vandalized.

Actually, I've had 4 different offers from towing companies to work for them. Believe it or not, it works out better than driving truck. And, no log book. But, you don't get any more sleep than you do now.

On another note, I talked to 3 guys at this private, vocational college that my friend was trying to get into.
Apparently, these were all former drivers, one being a laid-off local, the other two being former locals who didn't want to go OTR.
They were all trying to get into the correctional training program this place offers and I wished 'em luck.
But, at the same time, I chuckled due to why they obviously didn't want to go OTR.

As for private vocationals of that caliber, those seem to be a ripoff just in the same vein that some trucking schools are when it comes to job placement.
Since they own cars, they should save the money and drive the extra 30 down to the community college in San Bernardino that's $26/unit and offers an equal amount of vocational ed. alongside traditional academia.

I hear ya, 39k ain't bad, my first year was in 1999 but I only made 28k teaming for crst. At the time I didnt have kids or a house or a car note, but for a 40 somthing with all those bills to come jump into this industry and try and survive??....wow

You might be surprised at how little you can live on when you have no debt and live on a budget.
