What happened to Class A Drivers?

I Have always visited Class A Driver's Message Board every day for almost 4 years now and I have to say this site sucks now. Who decided to Moderate the board with an iron fist? Why are so many threads getting edited and why are threads getting locked for stupid reasons?

Rev, you locked BigDiesel's thread for nominating someone as the biggest whiner? Your kidding right? Your nomination is that anymore of this garbage will result in administrative action? You better check your head because I think this Admin power is going to your head, just a little. You have been the one to try to push things as far as you could without going over the line and getting banned but when someone else makes a crack at someone you throw your "admin powers" around showing who has the biggest dick?

Rev you are a Douche Bag! Your doing a great job of running people off the site! Keep up the good work.

I think rev has done a fine job. their are a few people he would probably like to ban just out of spite but he has had the composure and self control not to. it is also hard to get "promoted" amongst your peers. they expect you to behave how you did before and that is not a luxury that can be afforded. I think rev has handled himself in a very professional manner given how many people have purposely tested him. (this post comes to mind)

I would say that the few people who may or may not have left because of rev ( I can't think of any) will not be missed.

I am by no means revs biggest fan. I think he can be an egotistical ass (as he will admit) but I do appreciate him and do respect him. He rarely if ever makes things personal and he is knowledgeable about the things he says. It is my opinion that you are way off track sir

Name calling, profanity, and personal attacks against other members are not tolerated. They never were. I choose to edit them out, so the threads can remain. That is my choice to do so. If you don't like it, don't let the door hit you on the way out, and you can head over to any of the other trucking message boards that are moderated a lot tighter than this one.

I have no problem with people disagreeing, but insist that if you are going to do so, attack the post, and not the poster. The only things that have been edited out are the above mentioned items. Threads that are started with the sole purpose of calling people "whiners" and "cry babies" are subject to being locked or deleted.

Some of the prior administration had a "short list" of people they wanted to eliminate. I told them that I had no desire to do so, and was giving everyone a clean slate. So far, the only person who has been kicked to the curb was the Steve Booth mult, and I was willing to let him even stay had he not started making personal threats.

With pride.

BigDiesel 12-31-2008 09:22 AM

I have never understood why modulators/admin would have others on a " short list to wax".... Just because they do not fall into lockstep???? Controversy and the differing of opinions is always good.... But some will always need their hand held and coddled and then cry and whine like babies when someone challenges....... Just Sayin'..............

I didn't like the idea either, which is why I chose not to use it. I think everyone who is here should be, but some people choose to eliminate themselves by breaking the rules. The rules are here for the good of the board. An unmoderated board will quickly turn to disarray.

Controversy and the differing of opinions is always good....
Differing opinions are good. Name calling and personal attacks are not.

And, some will have a response that leaves you speechless.

Never saw that movie, but it looks like the mouth is open wide enough to fit a cue-ball in there. Obviously, "something" got caught somewhere.
And, thank you for not giving me an answer I half expected.
HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Really? That's how it is? You want to exercise the right of expression that is granted to you with limitations on this board by calling a moderator a douche bag?

WOW!! And yet you're still a member here and not banned. Guess it was a slow day for you and this is what you thought you needed to spice it up.

Regarding the content of your post, you have a valid point that there have been changes here at CAD.

1. The board was sold
2. A new ownership group took over
3. A new format has been presented
4. Essentially a whole new moderating team has been put in place
5. Some things about the board are brand new, some have not been replaced

Change is inevitable and it is up to each individual to respond to it and either change their comfort zone or move to another site that is within their comfort zone.

Constructive criticism is extremely welcome on this site. Some of our best board changes/options have been arrived at due to posters suggestions and constructive criticisms.

When it became apparent that we would need a couple of new moderators, I was all about bringing in Rev and Gman. Both have been excellent in learning the techniques and computer work necessary to carry out their tasks. My only reservation when they both came on board as moderators was who would pick up the slack to keep the threads moving, as both we greatly valued posters and it is very hard to moderate and post as if nothing has changed. Both have done a great job of doing both and your post is not exactly what I'm looking for when I'm trying to see who can pick up the slack to become a poster who is continually adding to the quality of the board.

Happy New Year!!

I feel that the philosophy that Rev is promoting, to argue the content of the post and not make it personal, is an excellent one at that. There is much to learn from a good debate. But when it goes personal, such as name calling and bickering, which I admit, have been drawn into, it can really take from the substance of this board.

CAD has a wealth of information and is an open invitation for those seeking answers and quality discussions. Given, there is a place for humor and a ribbing of its members makes it more personable, but, when the ribbing becomes an attack or being purposefully mean, then it takes from the credibility of the poster AND from CAD. I have no doubts that readers do enjoy getting to know the members personalities and soon learn who offers valuable information as well as find the personal attacks much like a nagging spouse or finger nails on a chalk board.

I'm not sure what being a new driver has to do with commenting on an issue with posters content......

No one asked me,but I think you BD tend to follow/stalk new drivers all around this forum and make comments on their remarks more than you make comments on the issue being discussed. Which is to bad because if you stuck to the thread topic I belive you give valuable info most of the time.

That's the whole "attack the post, not the poster" thing that I've been trying to push. Some seem to understand it, and others......well, one can hope.

Since dobry has, on many occasions, thanked posters for information that she didn't know, she clearly doesn't fall into that category.

Plus, a knowledge of the business has nothing to do with her opinion about CAD. Everyone's opinion is welcome here - company drivers, owner operators, fleet owners, veterans, noobies, family of truckers, people who aren't involved in trucking, people who don't give a rats ass about trucking but post here anyway - EVERYONE.

If you don't like that, then sucks to be you. It doesn't give you free reign with personal attacks against other members of this website. If you disagree with something someone says, then state your disagreement with it. If you think someone shouldn't say anything because they don't fall into your "special group of people worthy of responding", then you need to shut up or be edited.

I don't really care if you like this policy or not. This is standard protocol for pretty much every message board in existence, and it is the protocol for this board as well.

But, it also means you'll be around to put up with it all long after I've driven over the horizon.

GMAN 01-01-2009 12:57 PM

There has been a lot of bickering and personal attacks than strong moderation. Visitors get tired of all the negativity. I have had some members contact me about all the negativity and have told me that they were leaving for that reason. Some people left and have since come back. I stopped coming around much and ceased posting much for a while myself. I enjoy a good debate but don't want to deal with a lot of negativity or personal attacks. We should be able to debate without getting into the gutter. People come to this forum to gather information about this industry and to share common interests. They don't come here to get in the middle of a major battle.

And the day anyone thinks they can't learn anything from these people then they need to leave the board forever. If you already know everything about trucking then leave. We certainly don't need people following people around saying their opinion i not valid simply because they are a starry eyed newbie. I guarantee you I have learned things from starry eyed newbies and some of the few FOG's who have been around longer than I.

Posting things like "this proves how much you don't know" or "your opinion is not valid" is a waste of everyone's time and serves no purpose other than to run off good people from this board.

Windwalker 01-02-2009 01:21 AM

I know that people have left, and what the reason for most of them was, I don't know. I do know that some of the people that have left did not do so because of Rev V. Yes, the board was a bit more lively before the change, and some have not made the transition. I believe some opposed the transition itself.

Yes, there has been a change in the "STYLE" of the mods (I don't think anyone can replace Roadhog), but I have not seen a real change in the quality. Rev V is simply the most visible. I didn't even know that Scoe was still with us until I read his post earlier. And, I'm very surprised that this thread was not locked right after Big D and I put in our two cents the first time. An earlier post was locked shortly after it started, that would have gone along similar lines.

I'm guessing that this one didn't get locked down because there is something in the air that needs to be cleared. My father used to say: "You can lead a horse to water, but you can not make it drink." While there has been several attempts at explaining the guide lines of this board, the acceptance doesn't seem to be there. Maybe that's because we're all rebels in one sense or another or we would not be driving trucks.

My father also used to say that "there are more horses a$$ez in this world than there are horses". And, you'll find some of the extras on virtually every board on the internet. It does not matter if mods are included in that group or not... Someone felt that they were suited to be delegated additional responsibility, and I can either accept it or leave.

Snowman7 01-02-2009 01:58 AM

Well lets see, you take the most active posters IE:

Yooper
GMAN
Rev
Roadhog

then make them mods. OK so now who is going to do the posting? Of course the board is boring. Then you let Big Diesel bully everyone and some have left directly because of him. Others are still here but reserve comment for fear of being targeted next. Truckerswyfe was an active poster but was runoff. He may be knowledable but he's abrasive. The same was true of CFM/Lebron but he was banned for basically the same offense? Thing is CFM created controversy that kept the board moving but didnt run people off. BD just shuts people down with insults and then nobody will post. Seems you banned the wrong bad apple.

Just because someone is an active poster doesnt mean they are cutout to tell others how to post (moderate). I think Rev made the transition well, however he was more valuable as a regular poster. Others did not make the transition so well. Roadhog was one of my favorite posters but not so good at moderating. Yoop never should have been a mod. On top of that you lose TF. I still dont buy his reason for leaving, I think there's more to it. Now Ridge was a perfect mod IMHO. Not a big poster but reasonable and level headed, same with Scoe.

You need colorful characters to keep the board moving like GH, The "old" Rev (not the mod), CFM, Roadhog, even the "old" Yooper (again, not the mod). I was watching South Carolina/Iowa yesterday and the announcers were discussing Steve Spurrior, his coaching style and big ego. They quoted a former player who said Spurrior could be brutal with the sarcasm in the locker room. He said it was real funny as long it wasn't directed at you. Bullies make it so the playground is only fun for the bully, and maybe his small group of friends, as long as they laugh at all his jokes.

You know, that's actually really funny. On one side, I have people complaining that I've given BD a free pass, and that I'm playing favorites. On the other side, I have BD sending me several PM's calling me a hypocrite and telling me that I need to learn from Twilight Flyer et al. because I've been editing him so much. It seems that both sides aren't happy, and I'm stuck in the middle.

Which is exactly what the past mods predicted would happen.

Others are still here but reserve comment for fear of being targeted next. Truckerswyfe was an active poster but was runoff.
The last I checked, she was still posting. In fact, she posted yesterday.

I didn't ban Lebron.

Each of the past mods had their own reason for stepping down, and their reasons were very much legitimate. There's a lot of stuff that the main board never sees, and rightfully so.

Then I'd suggest that some of the other posters, if they are so concerned about the board staying active, should step up to the plate and pick up the slack.;)

LOL! I post somewhat but I'm not nearly as entertaining as the likes of you, Hoggie, GH, Belpre etc!

So you have alot of people complaining about BD and he is defending himself? okaaaay, Is anyone else coming to his defense? hmmm....As for TF's handling of BD I believe maybe he should have nipped it in the bud before it got to this point. If BD represents some kind of conflict of interest for you then perhaps another moderator should step in and allow you to "excuse yourself" so to speak?

Slow down the defense system there Rev. I'm not attacking you. I think you were a very entertaining poster. But I think you have to change your style to moderate effectively. I also think you moderate very well. That's a compliment. I just prefer you as an entertaining poster who doesn't have to compromise himself now that he's a moderator. (I'm sure you'll dispute that one!) I know you didn't ban Lebron and I'm not saying he didn't deserve it. But if he got banned then why not BD? And as for the board's so called troubles I dont believe you are responsible. I dont blame you for anything. However now it's your baby.

Just open discussion Rev. If you have a fault, it may be that you take issue with anyone who doesnt agree with you! I know this hard for you, but you dont have to always be right. And please try and see the tongue and cheek writing style that may not be so evident. :D

:argue:  :outnumbered:

The thing abut Bullies....If you LET then get away with their crap...they will continue their crap and target you.

If someone takes offense with a particular post(er)..then they need to counter THAT post(er). You know....right back in their face.

The BIG thing is...QUIT taking it personally!! Worry about friends and family...not an un-known personality on the internet!!

:usa:
Hunker down...respond to the Bully in a like manner. Only opposite!!

You mean fight back? There again, back to the philosophy of arguing the topic and not personally. If in fact you do argue back with the bully on a personal note, you become no better than the bully and present it openly. Which, as Gman stated, is offensive to a lot of readers.
