I've driven most of the US highways in WV and let's just say that 95% of them SUCK. The worst one I did was taking US-250 from Lexington, VA to Elkins, WV where I picked up US-33 over to I-79. From Lexington to Elkins is just under 180 miles. That 180 miles took me almost EIGHT hours to drive. Mind you, I was in a sleeper truck with 46,000lbs of scrap paper in the 53' trailer. That drive was HORRIBLE. US-33 east of Elkins is a rough one, as well. Very rough. US-250 from Mannington, WV to Moundsville/Wheeling - HA - I hate to drive that in my car, and I live in Mannington.

Well I made it.

I scaled after picking up the load and the load was a little heavier than they said it would be. Over 26k is not good, especially since I only had around 20 gallons of fuel in the tanks. Dumb, dumb, dumb. I never should have booked this load. It's my standard m/o though, I learn by making mistakes, not so much by the other guy making mistakes.

I took I-70 to the PA turnpike but I didn't get on the turnpike. I pictured ugly stuff happening whether I used my ezpass or paid cash. It just felt like a bad move. So I took 119 to Greensburg and 30 over to Breezewood where I picked up I-70 again. Berkeley Springs to Winchester.

I've never been on that section of PA-30. It hits 2906 ft elevation just south of Johnston. Like you were talking about Roady, going up those hills was costing me drivetrain and coming back down was costing me brakes. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

460 miles in 10+ hours. Not a good day for the home team.

Edit: A good link I found on overweight penalties. Some states have harsh penalties. Wow.

For future reference: The PA Turnpike DOES NOT axle weigh, only gross. As long as you are 80,000 or under, you are fine.
