Default I-70 closed in Colorado due to rockslide

Add another 200 miles to a trip across there:

Rockslide closes 17 miles of I-70 in Glenwood Canyon - The Denver Post

A-f'n-mazing that no one was hurt. I hadn't been there for a year or more but have gone through 3 times in the last couple of months. From now on, I'm wearing the hard hat I stole from Smurfit . . um . . Stone. OK. Maybe not.

When i was running west alot, some 2-3 years ago, i never ran I-70 on my way to Chicago from L.A.or back, even though i was routed that way. I always take Salt Lake City and on through Wyoming. Only 70 miles out of route but boy did i hate them mountains on I-70..

I used to run CO whenever I could. But boulders on the road was something I was always watching for. You don't need a rock-slide to find a boulder on the road big enough to take out your oil pan. But, my wife loved the scenery, and would take more than a thousand pictures across CO... Then another thousand or so across Utah till we hit I-15. A few of the scenic views give you some fantastic pics. But, I also know of an O/O that doesn't like that road much. The only rock on the road, and it took out his oil pan. I KNOW he was not happy.

That detour they've got set up sure puts a lot more miles on. If I were still driving, I might take it once just to have a look at it, but going through WY will be quite a bit shorter for now.

I always liked I-70 for the view but I-80 was always easier on the truck, just a mater of preferance. If I have time and it isn't in the middle of winter I'd take it but usualy did I-80
