Default Need help with route from I-40 to Globe, AZ

We have a load delivering in Globe, AZ. We have never taken SR77 (out of Holbrook) to SR77/60 can anyone give us a heads up to what this route is like? Any alternative suggestions would be appreciated also. Thanks!

exit 286 off I-40, 3rd stoplight after the RR tracks hang a right and stay straight through Show Low. Then you need to get your camera ready. Great scenery but after you pass through the Fort Apache Res, it becomes a twisting, winding 2 lane road. Thats realy the only way when coming off of the I-40. Keep a look out for the runaway ramp the ends in a stone wall....makes ya wonder.

Thats the salt river canyon , Its 6to 7 % grade , You can also go thru payson . out of show low Good road , you will go thru payson on hwy 260 where it meet hwy 87 turn south go thru payson and head down the hill Its 6% and has a couple sharpe turns but all good road at the bottom of the hill there will be a rest stop on the left , turn at the rest stop and that will take you in the back way to Globe , good road . Good luck be safe

Thanks to you both for the great replies. My wife is going to take the route thru Payson for she will be on duty during that time. Since it will be her first time thru there and at night she wants a less difficult option.

I live in Payson, and take my truck home.

When you merge onto 87 from 260, in about 5-10 miles you'll encounter a pretty twisty downgrade for about 1-2 mi. It's not bad--only one 20mph hairpin in the middle. It ends in the town of Strawberry.

Then you'll have a slight uphill and then downhill again into Pine, three miles away. Then it'll be downhill all the way (twisty two-lane) until you reach Payson(watch out, our cops are always watching the road, and we just installed a NO JAKES sign).

Once you pass the casino on the south end of town, you'll roll downhill about 3 miles and then the road steepens all the way down to Rye. It's 4-lane out of town, and the curves aren't too bad. About 5-6 miles past Rye, watch for the REST AREA sign--that's where you take a left. That road is all two-lane but no hairy grades except for one huge hill you'll get just a bit before Globe. You'll pop out right about in the middle of town, and a bit east on US70, there's a small truck stop and a couple of other places to park.

HTH.
